I'm allowed to make my own ice cream however the he|| I want, right? Government can't make me sign papers or track my purchases or bust in?

But I'm not allowed to pay this woman to make me some ice cream however the he|| I want? Even if I'm an intelligent, discerning person, I understand "the risks," I like the product, and I demonstrate my demand for it, government says 'nyet?'

The best thing about topics like this is,it brings out all the leftard statists who DEMAND more government control in order to keep us safe.

I wonder why leftards want to control others...must be a personal shortcoming.

I would say it bleeds into domestic issues also. I feel bad for the significant others of these control freaks. Either that or they have a small wang.

But still, it's ironic (not to mention self-deprecating) to witness that the pro-government folks here want to create a gulf between them and the crunchy granola liberal progressive types who either operate these businesses or patronize them.

More over-reaction and hyperbole by those who fit into the reckless hysteria mold. Yes...pun intended.
People don't like facts.

Overall, the issue is a dairy license, which requires the ice cream business to have the product tested once a month for high bacterial levels; requires standardized packaging and labeling; and purchase a pasteurizing machine.

I don't think it is unreasonable government intrusion to try to assure that the public (and children) is protected from bacteria levels in their ice cream.

The theme of this thread is "the government is oppressive" but when reviewing the actual facts it's clear the rules are reasonable for the purpose of protecting public health.

In addition, the thread title is outright false. Nobody is FORCING this business to use less healthy ingredients but the ingredient used must be below a certain bacteria level. Oh heavens, this business owner's liberties and freedom to manufacture bacteria laden ice cream are being trampled!
EXACTLY!
And reading further, the other examples discuss requiring licenses, for example, for medical-type procedures, like massage - the horror!
And what about the restaurants that complain about a hot dog cart right in front of their door - that restaurant owner is a small businessman who doesn't want a dirty hot dog cart in front of his place. THe hot dog cart is on wheels - he can move. So you have two small businesses here - and trying to accommodate both is drawing protests. WHat happened to trying to Protect small businesses? By moving the cart, BOTH can be accommodated.

That said, it is a given that city ordinance inspectors, from day 1, have always been, shall we say, Inconsistent. Nothing new here.

No, I just don't like being brainwashed by an incompetent OP. You do. You never like to check the facts if they sound good to you. That is your thing.
That is why I read the original article and not a blog that changes the facts from the article to fit their agenda.

Heres from the OP:

Pay up big bucks (she can't afford), use corn syrup instead, or get shut down.

Here is the truth:

Swanberg says that the IDPH officer who visited told her that her ice cream probably wouldn’t pass the bacteria tests if she continued to use fresh strawberries. Instead the officer suggested she use "strawberry syrup," Swanberg said.

Don't see a mention of corn syrup (in the original article). Doesn't say anything about that she definitely has to replace the strawberrys. And since when is it a bad thing to have a proper licence. I want my doctor to have a licence as well.

IDPH spokesperson Melanie Arnold said that it isn’t illegal to use real strawberries but that IDPH “does not encourage it simply because when you try and clean a strawberry to make sure it doesn’t have any bacteria, it kind of deteriorates.”

To the OP: Always cite the original source, not a blog. That way you won't mix up things.
