Obama endorses ending one day of mail delivery...

Looks like Saturday delivery may become history. Delivery should be reduced to Mon-Wed-Fri, or Tue-Thu.

Makes sense, Internet, emails, etc. has reduced the mail volume considerably, the reduction was inevitable.

My mom told me that they used to deliver mail to her house twice a day!

I am totally ok with this.

With Fedex, UPS, DHL, etc, do we still need a postal service? All we really need to keep is a (greatly reduced) bureau to standardize delivery addresses and zipcodes.

Pass a law that all have to deliver to all addresses?

Wait until you hear the screams.

Note that this all leads to further unemployment making the economy worse...

I remember twice a day deliveries too. It was in the same time frame when snow was removed from the sidewalks by a plow behind a horse. I'm fine with going to 3 or 4 day postal delivery so long as we keep the post office going. Too many catalog companies still use them and without their competition in the game, UPS and FedX would charge through the roof.

M-W-F would be great. If your in dire straits to receive mail on other days drag yourself down to the post office and get it.

I understand the problems with USPS... I understand they are trying to "survive" with one day less mail.... what I don't understand is HOW not having mail service for one day is going to "save" the USPS.... it isn't... its just prolonging the pain... instead of making the USPS more future-ready and future-proof, they are in essence trying to prolong their jobs so they don't have to look for a new one... Obama is as much an idiot as the next liberal... they seem to never get it... they don't seem to understand that you need to solve a problem and not try to prolong it for so long and see what will happens... I can tell you right now what is going to happen, sheet...
