If there is a Father's Against Cell Phone Drivers, where do I send my membership dues?

The nanny state has become the nanny fed...

If truckers couldn't use their cell phones - at all - while driving, my business would drop sharply.

I also believe that if you can't talk on the phone and drive at the same time, you probably can't walk and chew gum at the same time, either, and the proper solution would be to revoke your driver license permanently. This applies to seasoned drivers, not newbie teens who still haven't figured out how to work the headlight switch while staying in their lane, and are more interested in impressing their friends by pushing that four-banger to 85 than in driving safely.

Finally? As your own article points out it is already illegal in most states. My problem isn't with banning of people yapping on the phone driving as they try to hold the steering wheel with one hand while trying to hold their phone with the other (and I sure as hell don't have a problem banning texting or surfing the web) but the ban on the use of hand free sets unless they are installed by the manufacturer or using the gps app on my iPhone, that to me is ridiculous.
Wish you could get in my car with me...and ride bout a mile...and see that it is NOT banned here.

With people texting while driving does anyone need any more proof that the dumbing down of America was successful?

the fine is a deterrent for being stupid, when you drive that is a full time job and you owe a certain responsibility to those around you,
I saw a person on a laptop while driving one time.

Not far off. There was already a comment that this was the "new DUI". I can understand texting, but not talking.

Do you think you should be able to drive with passengers?

too lazy to do the research but I'd bet a beer that most studies have shown that talking on the phone is more distracting than talking with a passenger, because the passenger is a second set of eyes (as well as some other stuff)

That's the thing. I don't care if people use their phones, but when they do it while driving 70 Mph in an SUV next to me, then they are obviously putting my life in danger. If they hit a tree and die, they paid for their own supidity, but if they hit and kill other people, then others had to pay for their stupidity.

I hope it passes. Enough people have died already because of people messing with their phones while driving.
