The capital gains tax rate is 15%, almost TWICE the effective federal income tax rate the highest taxed of the bottom 90% of taxpayers pay.
Many of that 90% pay even less. For example, the top 25-50% group pays an effective federal income tax rate of only 5.56%. That 15% tax rate you're complaining about is nearly THREE times what that group pays.
You conveniently omit payroll taxes, which the poor pay a higher percentage than the rich, since payroll taxes are capped. Besides, the poor have little income. It's fair that they pay less.

Look at the data for all federal taxes. The poor and the middle class STILL make out better.

No. We absolutely need to know how shrimp run on treadmills.
The country will fall apart without studies like this. Besides this study is ONLY $500,000.
Or the robot that can fold a single towel in 25 minutes. That was only $1.5 million.
My favorite was the $600,000 to study why chimps throw feces.
I don't know your income level or age, but how much of your income do you think is fair to pay?
Let's take three incomes. Tell me how much you think each should pay as a percentage of their gross income.
Single professional earning $100,000.
Single mom with two kids earning $50,000 and receiving $12,000 a year in alimony and $12,000 a year in child support.
Recent college grad earning $35,000.
Anyone can chime in.
I'll go with 15% across the board with deductions for kids up to 18 living at home.
As income increases so do taxes proportionally. Those with kids get breaks. No other deductions whatsoever. Simple 1 page tax form and 1/2 page instructions.
