I've wondered about this, what would be Caesar's? God, I don't have a problem with. This seems to leave it wide open for government interruption doesn't it....................

I'm an atheist. I'm not a democrat.
I've said for many years this fictional character the Romans invented was a communist.

You have a guy that teaches pacifism, self sacrifice, and paying taxes... Could an empire ask for a better god?

I guess not, they killed him.

Yeah, Jesus kind of would.

Don't push that BS Obama is a secret Muslim, that's just tin foil hilarity now.

Indeed. There's more in Luke: 31: "And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
Seems like there's precious little following of the Golden Rule these days.

Many rich people give a lot to charity. People going to church tithe 15-20% of their income.

Only the rich who allow money to rule them is what Jesus and the bible were referring to.

Yes, but: 1) Money donated by the rich is insufficient to care for the large number of the needy, 2) The tithe is used to pay the pastor's salary, mortgage and for church upkeep or expansion, and 3) Jesus tells us not to accumulate our riches on Earth, but to lay them up in heaven. In the final analysis, I'd prefer to be as generous to others as I'd like them to be with me if I fell on hard times. Once again, it's as simple as the Golden Rule.

Tithing also goes to various needs in the community and for the poor, etc.

If the money the rich give is not enough then why is Obama always going after it all the time? I agree it is not enough, everyone needs to give some and that is what the Republicans are saying---rich, poor, you, me, we are all in this together. Give what you can for your circumstances. Obama will come after it anyway, he just uses the rich song and dance to get re-elected.

I think we all live by the Golden Rule---it's the Dems who are into class warfare and saying some are not giving as much as they should.

Certainly I know what tithing is; I simply pointed out that churches use part of the money for other things. As for President Obama, he simply wants to raise the taxes on the very richest Americans back to the level that it was under Clinton, and the wealthy did quite well during those years. When even Warren Buffett agrees that it isn't fair that his secretary pays a higher tax rate than he does, one must ponder whether that situation is fair or not. And if we all lived by the Golden Rule, we'd be too proud to let other Americans go hungry, homeless or jobless. Judging from some posters, I'd have to disagree with you on that point.

Warren Buffet never explains apples to apples between him and his secretary. We need to see her tax structure and his to make a comparison.
