I wish people would stop pushing the "we are a Christian nation" BS. We are a nation founded on Judeo/Christian values and laws, that doesn't mean that the government has any claims on your property (including your income) for the needs of others.
Funny how the Christian nation stuff is "BS" to conservatives when it really matters and when it's actually time to put it into practice.
These are Americans, and you should and WILL pay to help them get on their feet.
When Cuomo says "Washington" he means you and me. Should Obama agree to pay 100% of the cleanup ? Typical Democrat who says just print more money. All done by union workers.
The normal is a 25% State / 75% Federal split which seems more than fair. Giving 100% is writing a blank check with no responsibility to the state. It should be like a down payment on a house and having a stake in the game. When you are able to get all expenses paid, why worry about what it costs.
NY loves to brag about their great economy and independence. Pass a flood tax to pay your 25%.

Yes, we should pay to rebuild the infrastructure and a combination of US TAXPAYERS and private insurers should help rebuild homes. Most definitely.

The effected area needs to get cleaned up on the public dime.... After that it should be up to private industry for profit, paid for by insurance.

We had a major storm here this past summer. We were out of power for three days with others for weeks. There was a ton of damage. Nobody asked the federal government to pay the bill.
