Here's my conspiracy theory:

They were running guns and maybe more to Syria and it was being orchestrated out of Benghazi.
Stevens was CIA until May and the guys with him were ex Seals and Benghazi was CIA as well.
Something went horribly wrong and 4 Americans ended up dead.
The military knew about it..5 or 6 top military commanders have been reassigned from over there to desk jobs over here.
Petraeus has had his tangles with this administration and I think he would have told what happened to Congress.
His abrupt resignation and public flogging in the press is a nice message to anyone with knowledge of what happened in Benghazi.

Please note my first sentence..MY conspiracy theory on this.
This is how I connected the dots.

Default The real catastrophe in the Petraeus case

The entire cover up by Obama is bad enough, but what's worse is how this case illustrates the power of the Federal Government to spy on citizens. We have allowed our government to become so powerful that it can spy on us even when no crime has been committed and when there is no evidence of a crime.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. And the Feds are really close to having absolute unrestrained power.

"Whatever transpired, the FBI agents found no indication that it constituted a crime or a threat to national security. They confirmed this when they interviewed Broadwell and then Petraeus."

The Patriot Act was the worst bill to ever get signed.
It gave the USG a blank check to do what it wanted, when it wanted with no regard to the laws of our land.
All in the name of freedom and security.

Bipartisan and every piece is renewed when it's about to expire.

Well the FBI has found classified documents on her laptop. Petreaus denied passing them and she said he did not pass them to her. Soooooooooooo, where the hell did she get them from? Maybe he didn't actually give them to her, but...............when you snooze you lose. Did she do a bit of snooping and snapping of documents while he was blissfully sleeping?

The Republicans don't have to hope for a scandal. It's being ready made for them. The question is, what is the real scandal? Extramarital affairs?

Not really. He is/was another top commander over in the ME.
They've been spying on him since 2010.
He was having his Senate confirmation next week.

If they were spying on him for 3 years and had all this dirt, do you really think he would have been nominated in the first place ?

Seems to me that someone is doing housecleaning in the military and they've been gathering information on these guys for 3 years. The question though is why is it all coming out now ?

Yeah, like that's going to happen!

This guy was shown the door because he knows tooooooo much information. So what do they do? Have him resign....shame him in public over adultry....discredit him for disgracing his family.....and act like he doesn't represent the Administration any longer because he's a cheater. It's the classic Washington case of getting rid of someone who has honor and dignity lest they actually tell the truth.

You don't understand it do you Fro? Patreaus could single-handedly take down the Obama Administration if he wanted to. The quicker they can get him out of town, the better in the eyes of Barack Obama.
I think you've got that right. Wise ones quietly disappear before the SHTF, like Hans Blix (remember, he's the one who found no weapons of mass destruction but quickly faded from center stage when his findings did not support the Bush regime). In this case, they are trying like hell to get Petraeus off center stage right at the time he is to testify. For once I take the side of the Republicans who hopefully will not let this go.

I agree. And the Feds power grows more every year.
