I'm sure reindeer and snowmen have a lot to do with Jesus. I bet you can find some twisted logic to tie stockings to a desert nomad who wore sandals too.
Acually I remember a woman on a Christian forum once looking for a way to weave the red/white in a candy cane to the blood of christ/white as snow 'salvation' story. I kid you not.

Well... Snow, Ice, and wintry decorations are not part of Christmas, so I give you that one. It's part of the winter season.

As a Christian, I must tell that it was a silly statement. Wintry decorations have nothing to do with Christmas, including snowman
I get offended when I'm not wished happy Saturnalia by store clerks. It is, after all the real reason for the season. (Until a group trying to gain more converts took it over)
Reminds me of the divide in Islam between the "extremists" and the "true" followers. At base of it all the goal is the same: get others to change and convert.
Here in Pittsburgh the major manger display is on private property following years of antimosity with a publically owned spot. Not sure if the arrangement will last forever as it is owned by major company and they could have a change in heart/management someday.
I'm not really sure why churches aren't sufficient to display all this religious sentiment about Jesus and salvation, though, and why so many insist that it must be acknowldeged in conspicuous and otherwise secular public areas. Is it to make a point about power or something?
I think it is.

You're ridiculous. I only object to religious displays on public land. What the local mall, supermarket, etc. does is their business and I don't say anything about it since I'm not paying for that land.

Wintery decorations ARE a part of chiristmas. They may not be part of the story of the birth of Jesus but they are part of the american christmas traditions and to even TRY to deny that is rediculous. Jesus himself isn't into decorations and the bible even says so with the "don't bring in a tree and decorate it" line. No leg to stand on there...no leg at all.
Decorations are a fashion statement, not a christian stand.
To bad some Atheist can't just sit back and enjoy the rum and egg nog, while leaving others alone.
AHHHH, so much for being tolerant of others. beliefs.......must be a boring bunch to be around!!!
It's too bad some Christians can't do the same. Who cares if they put up a display? Either all displays are allowed or none so just allow them their display and enjoy your display. It's not so hard.
