Good grief! What if the sales clerk isn't Christian? Lots of non-Christians work for Christians on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!
I have a policy of "no shopping" on Christmas Eve. Otherwise, my husband would never quit. We try to do something family-ish on Christmas Eve, like ice skating.
8/10 Americans are Christians, and more than 9/10 celebrate Christmas so I assume she is Christian. It doesn't matter if he/she is Christian or not, they should still greet everybody with "Merry Christmas" since it's a national holiday.
If I was in Israel, I would greet everyone "Happy Hanukkah" and "Happy Passover", and if I'm in an Islamic nation I would greet them by their holidays. Respect the national holidays and majority of people.
You greet me with "Happy Holidays" on Christmas Eve, and I will tell your manager + calling corporate for insulting me, being Anti-Christmas, and Anti-Christian. I do wear a big cross, and you know I'm Christian.
You better wear a cross, because no one would recognize you as a Christian by your words or actions.

At my local mall, Jews wear 'Star of David' necklace to show us they are Jews, and I could easily tell if a person is Jewish or not, both my the look and accent.

Actually, this is a very promising post. You have successfully set precedent as to why Christmas probably should not be a federal holiday.
As you've pointed out, Israel has their religious holidays. But Israel is a religious state. The United States of America is not a religious state. We are a secular state. Our goals have always been to be secular. You shouldn't let the population makeup deter us from the goal of this nation. In fact, you point out that we need to work harder to hold up to the goals of this nation set forth by our founding fathers.
Did you miss where that poster stated that all Christmas decorations can be directly linked to Jesus?
Maybe you can explain how reindeer, decorated trees, stockings, gingerbread men, and Santa directly relate to the birth of Jesus.
Ask some of the old Norse or Germanic people who used St. Nick and others where we use Santa Claus. They were there before either of us was.
No, the christians will ALWAYS have to make something up (like making up a "god') so they will continually have something to whine about...they're whiney babies whose faith is challenge by lack of plastic figures (Made in China) on public property.
Ya, you're right...christians are NOT leaders and don't know how to set a good example....
That was a typically weak atheist answer to Nunnor. Keep on trying because at least 30% of the people in this thread are atheists. Always they are very thick on this kind of thread and this year doesn't seem a bit different.

The atheists won so they should be happy. No more Christmas in Santa Monica.
Haha... oh wait, are you actually being serious? I'm quite sure Christmas will still exist in Santa Monica, with or without that one public display area. Really now.
P.S. If the CHRISTIANS had left the Atheist display alone, this wouldn't have been an issue. So why aren't you saying "the Christians won?" Shifting the blame much?
This thread? I'm not sure of the OP's religion, but think they are Jewish. The gazillion other "War on Christmas" threads I've read over the years on C-D are/were mostly started by Christians, whining about something highly significant like the Wal-Mart clerk's use of "Happy Holidays." CALL THE PRESS, IT'S ALL-OUT WAR!!!
And who can't forget that old time classic by Bing Crosby....."I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the one's I used to know".....stop the presses folks, what...who got elected?
Christmas is all about the birth of Christ, and most decorations we use and see are part of it, including Christmas trees, color red and green, stars of Betlehem, Nativity Scene, Angels, Christmas bows, etc.
You just reminded me of the Christmas cards I send to friends and relatives. I have bought nothing but Leanin' tree cards for many years and they all have pictures of cowboys and other old time western themes and none of them ever have anything about holidays. If they don't say Christmas I don't buy them. I guess most of our atheist friends wouldn't want to get a card from me.
My favorite card has always been one that has what is known as A Cowboys Christmas Prayer which is rather long but it serves among Christians.
