From the 2006 speech, " You know, you probably never thought you'd hear this at a Take Back America conference, but Newt Gingrich made a great point a few weeks ago. He was talking about what an awful job his own party has done governing this country, and he said that with all the mistakes and misjudgments the Republicans have made over the last six years, the slogan for the Democrats should come down to just two words:
Teen drug addicts back then, and there are teen drug addicts now. I mentioned this phrase in another post. The more things change, the more they remain the same. Today is different from the 50s, but both eras had drug addiction, even among teenagers. It was in the New York Times, but no one was going to talk about this on the news. Today, it will be covered in the news, along with bullying, racism, suicide, school shootings. The 1950s was more an era of illusion when you really think about it. There were many problems in the 1950s, among them teen pregnancy(the highest teen pregnancy rates recorded were in the 1950s), racism, drug addiction, violence, gangs, poverty(the Deep South was very poor, and in many places still poor today), and other issues. Like you said, all swept under the rug.

Had enough?"
