I agree with you here. If your criteria is race, then that's a racist criteria.
If your criteria is physical attraction, and that happens to exclude 99% of a certain race then that's not racist.
It really depends on how you frame it. That being said, people should be left unmolested to pick their mates and in this society "racist" carries negative connotation so I avoid labeling it to people who want to pick their mate, even if one of their criteria is race.
But what if you are only attracted to one race? Is that still racist? I don't think it is... I can see refusing to date someone you like because of their race as racist, but maybe the subtle nuances are lost on me.

The nuance here is the frame:
I don't date black people.
That's racist because it doesn't allow for the fact you might like or be attracted to a black person. You're automatically ruling them out by their race.
Saying this on the other hand:
I don't date people I'm not attracted to, for whatever reason I'm not attracted to most black people.
Is not necessarily racist. It's a physical preference. You prefer certain features found in one race over the other.
So what if it is? People are entitled to be as picky and discriminatory in their dating choices as they please.
If a heterosexual man refuses to date other men, no one accuses him of being "sexist".
Have I made any indication that people were not entitled to be as picky and discriminatory in their dating choices as they pleased?
