You are absolutely correct. Unfortunately there wasn't the political will to do that at the time Before HIPAA. Raising taxes and all that was not a republican option. Nor would it have been easy for the federal government to convince each individual state that that was the way to go. Look how many republican states are refusing the Medicaid expansion in the ACA even though it is entirely funded by federal dollars for the first number of years.

I would have preferred that they drop the age of Medicare eligibility and insured everyone. But that is the republican nightmare. It's bad enough that the federal government is providing food to those in need, now healthcare for all? It smacks too much of socialism and gives a republican toilet cramps.
I love how the fact that 30 million will still be uninsured and this projection always gets tossed into the liberals face by the right wing debaters but if you have an ounce of intelligence you realize that they are very happy that 30 million people are projected not covered by private insurance under the ACA. In your heart, you know that they wished it was more like 60 million. Personal responsibility and all that, you know.

P.S. You know how you can tell when a politician (of any party) is lying? Their mouth is moving.

As I just said above..... if you want to scrutinize every lie or deception made by a politician, you might as well get out the complete list of US Presidents. Otherwise, you're either ignorant to the past or deliberately pretending he's the first/only.

(for the record, I have no idea if he lied about this or not - just sayin')

All politicians are liars..... even your favorites.

Also, it's bold faced liar. Good grief. This is the level of intelligence we're dealing with......

Sigh. he lied, either knowingly, or by omission. I trust politifact a lot, they back up their judgements with facts, and do a pretty good job of researching it.

The right accuses it often of being a liberal propaganda tool BTW. But heres their take on it:

Short version-he lied.

PolitiFact | Barack Obama says that what he'd said was you could keep your plan 'if it hasn

Did he knowingly lie? I have no idea, did he intend to deceive? Again no idea. Much like Bush and his WMD in Iraq.

But in the end it wont matter, he should have been more clear. He failed us on this.

So would I vote for him over Romney today? Lord yes. Would I vote for him over McCain.....today dunno. Would I vote for Huntsmen over him? Yeah probably.

The Republican or Tea party needs to get some better candidates.

Yea, Obama doesn't want Americans to know the truth because he knew they would be angry. He had to lie.

I don't have a favorite but I can tell you any politician who can figure out any other way other than to raise taxes as democrats do is on my list of least favorites. I wonder if they could come up with something original.

How many times is this garbage going to be re-posted? Well, I suppose that I'll have to re-post the facts of the matter again. How tedious...(sigh).

No, Obama didn’t lie to you about your health care plan

Terminated policies were introduced after ACA's passing -- often with insurers' knowledge they'd be scrapped

First, it is important to note that the ACA grand-fathered all the individual policies that were in place at the time the law was enacted. This means that the plans in effect at the time that President Obama was pushing the bill could still be offered even if they did not meet all the standards laid out in the ACA.

The plans being terminated because they don’t meet the minimal standards were all plans that insurers introduced after the passage of the ACA. Insurers introduced these plans knowing that they would not meet the standards that would come into effect in 2014. Insurers may not have informed their clients at the time they sold these plans that they would not be available after 2014 because they had designed a plan that did not comply with the ACA.

However if the insurers didn’t tell their clients that the new plans would only be available for a short period of time, the blame would seem to rest with the insurance companies, not the ACA. After all, President Obama did not promise people that he would keep insurers from developing new plans that will not comply with the provisions of the ACA.

If we want to play Fox News, President Obama also promised people they could keep their doctor. Since 2010 tens of thousands of doctors have retired or even died. Guess the pledge that people could keep their doctor was yet another lie from the Obama administration.
