By your very sound stats, there is only a .1% chance that the guy standing in your house, at 2 am, with your burgular alarm going off (which means the police will be there in 5 to 30 minutes) wants to kill you. So feel free to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Just don't expect a cop to give you the same leeway. If a cop tells you to freeze and you keep coming towards him, expect a bullet, or two.
ellemint would probably want you to have a conversation with the person, maybe make them a cup of coffee and sit down to try and really figure out why they are in your house in the middle of the night. Obviously if you don't do this you just are going on a fantasized killing spree and your a racist, it is the only logical conclusion.

I believe the homeowner DID fire a warning shot. That, coupled with the alarm sounding makes 2 warnings.

Yay, a teenager ignores 2 warnings and dies for it. Lefties blame the homeowner. What a shock.

Ugh... You NEVER fire a warning shot.

If you shoot you shoot to kill in defense of your life. No one that fears for their life fires warning shots. Having the ability to fire a warning and wait is evidence that you weren't in imminent danger for your life.

Unless your state's law allows you to. Virginia does not specifically allow it though case law mostly supports it. That is a huge gamble to take...

" Saying he had no discretion under state law, a judge sentenced a Jacksonville, Florida, woman to 20 years in prison Friday for firing a warning shot in an effort to scare off her abusive husband."

Yeah.

So he fired, and then yelled at the teen. Then the teen started up the stairway. . and he shot the teen in the back.

So far, as far as i can tell, further proof that your guns will not make your family safe. It will, on a chances and probability rate, more likely to kill an innocent neihbor (here), your kids, or yourself, or spouse.

If this guy wasn't a crazy nutbag with a gun, the teen would be alive. Maybe in Jail . .but alive.

I hope no one ever breaks into your house, if it happens I am sure you will be more than content to have him fill out a questionnaire to determine the true intent of his visit.

Only sheep and fools would question the absolute right to protect your own home.

Don't want to get shot then don't break into someone's house. Not sure if you can handle drinking and may possibly go into the wrong house? Don't drink.

This wasn't a tragic shooting. This was a moron self-selecting himself out of our gene pool.

He clearly has served his purpose.

You sound like the perfect victim. How is a thin bedroom door supposed to get anyone out of your room?

The chances of some random serial killer-type person who just breaks into peoples homes to kill them, that is very very rare.

So we know that the vast majority of home intruders, probably around 99.9 % are burglars who want to steal your property. If you shoot into the air, it is highly likely they will flee. Why not do that, since the risk of it being some psycho-killer is very remote? Why this blood-lust to kill?
Are you wiling to bet the life of your child on that theory?
