They're religious extremist--they don't speak or act for other Christians. I'm guessing there are big time mental health issues in that home too...
Actually, this was the teachings of the Christian church they belonged to. Unfortunately, not an isolated incident.
LIVING ON A PRAYER: THE CASUALTIES OF FAITH-HEALING
Quote:
It is estimated that around a dozen U.S. children die in faith-healing cases each year, a handful of which spawn criminal charges, according to experts.
The First Century Gospel Church of Philadelphia’s teachings has clashed with authorities in the past.
In 1991, eight children died in a measles epidemic. All the parents were members of either First Century Gospel Church or the nearby Faith Tabernacle of Nicetown which also preaches faith-healing.
The tragedies are not isolated to Pennsylvania. In Oregon, Jeff and Marci Beagley, were sentenced to 16 months in 2010 for the death of their 16-year-old son. The couple refused to use medicine for their son Neil, who was suffering from a preventable urinary tract blockage. Instead, they prayed and used anointing oils in the hope of divine intervention.
After the death of their first child, the second child should have been taken away from these Fundamentalist Christians.
I hope you can pocket your hatred for one second, enough time to understand that probably 99.9999% of Christian Fundamentalists do, in fact, seek medical intervention when necessary.
I don't know why you are so angry, but stop sensationalizing these rare events as being "common practice".
Don't you stupid ignorant people on CD understand?! God will fix everything in His time. 'Yall don't obviously seem to get it! All you naysaying heathens will burn in eternal hellfire for your disbelief. The children of the faithful will live in Heaven eternally with JESUS! Don't question God's will or put the Lord thy God to the test!
This type of crap is not as uncommon as some make it out to be. In fact, there are some CD posters that I am sure prescribe to these tenets.

Even one death of a child because of this religious extremism is too many. However, there have been many deaths due to parents denying their children medical help and using prayer instead. My anger is for the ignorance of these fundamentalists!

250 milion Americans identify themselves as Christian, and we are talking about a handful of cases a year.
That is THE definition of "uncommon"
But I completely agree, it's sick and wrong.
