So yeah, they'll trot it out there and say "We're just collecting numbers". I'm not saying that the U.S. is Nazi Germany - far from it at this point. However, I always try to remind people of one simple thing. Nazi Germany did not start out as a totalitarian government; it started out as a democracy. It became a totalitarian regime when people in that democracy foolishly voted away their liberties, one by one. And in the name of security and national honor, they simultaneously voted for an aggressive warmongering regime, which then, in turn, needed 'security' measures to keep the state functioning.
And didn't realize until the end that they now needed an army to protect themselves from the government they allowed to come into power.

conservatives are the biggest hypocrites.

conservatives are attempting to disappear recent American history when conservatives were cheer leading the surveillance state and pretending they have always been opposed. This is a lie.

conservative ideology supports and loves the surveillance states, and most of these conservatives supported these horrible policies.

For conservatives, this ploy is cynical, and it is all about President Obama. Understand that conservatives still support the war on terror, they still think the War in Iraq was a great idea, they still want indefinite detention, they still want GITMO to remain open, they still think that torture is a great idea, they still support the Patriot Act, etc.

Remember when conservatives were in charge the creation of homeland security, the freaking terrorist threat levels used to scare the crap out of the public, the freedom fries, the roasting of anyone who opposed any of these policies, that was ALL conservatives, they love the surveillance state. Now they are pretending they don't.

conservatives love all of those horrible policies, in fact they were conservative ideas pushed by conservatives.

Now they attempt all of this fear mongering to simply hurt President Obama, that is beyond cynical.
conservatives are liars.

And what is your Dear Leader doing to stop all of these things?! Not a DAMN thing! Obama and Bush are one in the same!!! Perhaps if you took off your partisan blinders you'd realize that there is no difference between the 2, or the 2 main parties when it comes to an ever expanding government, as well as overreach and intrusion into our private lives!!!!

As long as a single Republican is in the government, it will always be their fault.
I don't know what these people will do when the Republicans are all gone.
They'll have to find a new scapegoat for all the wrongs done by government.

That poster has a goal for how many times in a day they can scream "CONSERVATIVES" and point out how evil they are.

People need to seriously start seeing that these practices are against everyone and its a bipartisan issue.

I don't know, maybe they are being paid for how many times they shake their pom poms.

In large part true. Obama and his supporters were against all of this stuff and are now all for it.

So is this the answer? Good when you agree with the administration in power and bad when it's not?

Al Franken: All of you are bad guys.

Yes, I paraphrased and those are not his exact words.

Quote:
“There are certain things that are appropriate for me to know that is not appropriate for the bad guys to know,” Franken said.
While many believed this was going on we certainly didn't know for sure. Hence we Franken knew but we didn't and Franked describes those that didn't as the "bad guys".

People are very partisan.
Pew Poll showed how support changed based on who sits in the Oval Office.
Under Bush, Reps supported it while Dems were against it.
Under Obama, Repubs are against it while Dems are for it.

So it's really not what we are doing but who is in charge while we're doing it.

As the White House faces questions about secret internet and telephone surveillance programs, investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill says, “There's a chill that's been sent through the national security reporting community.”

Scahill, who investigated the United States’ covert operations in the war against terrorism in a new documentary, “Dirty Wars,” told Top Line in an interview recorded prior to the most recent NSA leaks that sources inside the government have grown fearful of talking to the media.

“Many sources that I used to be able to talk to through encrypted e-mail or with chats using OTR, off the record software, they won't do it anymore,” Scahill said. “It's either in person or nothing. … There's a real fear on the part of whistleblowers and sources that the Espionage Act is going to come knocking on their door one day under the Noble Peace Prize-winning, Constitutional law professor, Democratic president.”

Here's what many are missing in this whole debate. If this program was aimed and targeting information outside the U.S. instead of inside there'd be no issue.
