Do you know about somebody who was thrown under the bus? I haven't seen any information saying somebody didn't get a lung and died after this girl did. Perhaps you can provide that information. Using your argument every time somebody gets a lung or kidney or liver somebody else is thrown under the bus. They wait based on their need at the time and how high up on the list they are. They don't all have a month to live.
Considering that there were other people waiting to get a transplant, they did in fact get pushed from the top of the transplant TWICE for this girl.
Did you think that Sarah was the only person waiting for a lung transplant?

People wait all the time. You think every lung matches every person or something?
really? who died as a result of that judges decision???
The little girl would have dies without the judges decision.
And people like Kathy Sebilious would have shrugged and simply said "oh well people die" and walked away.
Don't let your politics get in the way of common sense. The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services should have been no more involved than the judge--who should have not been involved at all. It isn't about Obama or his minions.
Less than 2,000 lung transplants are performed in the US each year--and there are 50,000 new cases of pulmonary fibrosis each year. And pulmonary fibrosis is only one of the potential causes of the need for a lung transplant.
You won't find out who died sooner because of the judge's decision--but two people did. The demand for lungs exceeds the supply, and there is no alternative. If you want beef for dinner but only chicken is available, you won't starve to death. If you need a new pair of lungs but there is not a pair for you, you will die.
The love of my life may need a lung transplant, and may qualify some day for the list. I would not be the right person to make the decision--nor any politician or appointee--nor you--nor any judge. There is a protocol in place that sorts out competing demands, and sets the priority. The protocol was designed by experts, not amateurs. And that is as it should be.

Apparently those other people don't have PR teams. And there ARE other people. There's a huge LIST of other people, which you folks love to ignore.
Those organ patients also apparently aren't cute and female and young. Big difference, now that we've decided those are the criteria for getting attention and organs.
Unless nobody else is a match and an organ would go to waste anyway I can totally see putting a limit on how many organ transplants one person can have. I'm not a "death panel", just a realist. And it shouldn't be decided by any court, just the medical professionals.
Well obviously there was a knowledgeable doctor somewhere willing to do the transplant and did it.
I guess its ok to throw a little girl under the bus and give the lungs to some adult with emphysema that smoked their entire life.
Many teenagers with cystic fibrosis are on the adult transplant list waiting for lungs. These teenagers cannot be put on the pediatric list also. Should this change as well?
