Are you really arguing that girls are so weak and manipulative that they would allow a t-shirt to control their lives?
No, I'm arguing that self esteem and stereotypes are important factors in academic ability. It's not just a t-shirt, it's a cultural mindset. If the stereotype persists that girls are bad at math, then girls will continue to avoid going into STEM fields.
I believe that most doctors would recognize psychiatry as a medical discipline. In any case, all of the articles city were from the field of psychology, not psychiatry.

Hard to understand, I know.
Indeed it is. My daughters would have never allowed a stereotype run their lives.

Perhaps not consciously. Would you like me to cite another 20 papers that support the idea that stereotypes do affect student performance in the classroom and their career choices?

Most gay guys I know don't walk around limp wristed. Well, I'm not sure any of them do.

So your daughter, who is good at math, wants to wear a t-shirt that implies that she is horrible at math. Makes total sense.
Yes, it does make total sense. You see, she already has a fairly well developed sense of humor. She gets sarcasm, she plays pun games with myself and her mother, and she likes to act silly. She sees that t-shirt for exactly what it is - a joke about the stereotype - rather than the way some people have chosen to see it.

Congrats on your little hipster! Perhaps she can wear that shirt ironically with her dark rimmed glasses while drinking a PBR.

She's a bit young for drinking - 13 years too young, actually - but I highly doubt that PBR will be her drink of choice when she reaches 21. Thanks for taking a pot shot at my 8 year old, though. I guess the stereotype I'll be teaching her about is that people on internet forums are jackasses.
