Surprise, surprise - the older generations lived in a segregated society. Why would this be a surprise or worth writing? Younger generations seem to live differently which indicates a change in society.
Many Americans, especially older and Southern Americans, don't have friends of a different race
I'm not really surprised.
It's hard to be surprised when you make up your own facts.
"Looking at a broader circle of acquaintances to include coworkers as well as friends and relatives, 30 percent of Americans are not mixing with others of a different race, the poll showed."
"As a group, Pacific states - including California, the most populous in the nation - are the most diverse when it comes to love and friendship. By contrast, the South has the lowest percentage of people with more than five acquaintances from races that don't reflect their own."
That's unimaginable for me personally, but for a good bit of this country if not most of it, that's totally plausible.
This country is still very segregated. Some of the segregation is simply organic...not forced. It also has a lot to do with location a large percentage of the time.
I mean really...what's the chance an older white man from Wyoming even knows a black or Asian person?
So? People typically feel more comfortable around others who are like themselves. It usually has nothing to do with "segregation" or "discrimination" or whatever "-ation" you wanna call it.

Better chances of knowing a Native American or even Latino.

I don't know. Seems like a pretty boring life to me. Last thing i want is a life where i'm surrounded by people that are no different than i am. What's the sense in waking up in the morning?
Older people generally have fewer friends, they focus more on family...they stay home more...they have sick spouses to attend to...they have less money...they don't go out at night...
They read posts like this and thank God they know how to read a newspaper and book.
Those that live in the South live in more rural situations...Many live on a 1/2 acre or 1 acre of property, like all their neighbors....in other words, they live in more isolated environments...and they love it. They have their privacy and independence...And this will make some liberals dirty their draws - some in these environments still have their own simple shooting ranges on their property, for target practice. And their neighbors come by on the weekends to join them.
