This thread is another attempt by religionists (or, to be accurate, one religionist) to falsely depict atheists as intolerant. In fact, we do not object to private religious beliefs or expressions of religious belief. We do object to government endorsement and promotion of religion, and in the United States the religion that is the chief beneficiary of that promotion and endorsement is Christianity.
Oh, and if you haven't followed the links, the objections to the Islamic call to prayer are mainly coming from Christians. Take this example from the story in the Times about Hamtramck:
Quote:
''My main objection is simple,'' she said. ''I don't want to be told that Allah is the true and only God five times a day, 365 days a year. It's against my constitutional rights to have to listen to another religion evangelize in my ear.''
Yeah, believers never complain about anything. They never start threads like this, for instance, or complain about same sex marriage, or nonbelievers, or people who believe in other faiths, or people who are pro-choice with regards to abortion, or why we aren't teaching creationist nonsense alongside science in public schools, or why we can't have organized prayer in public schools, etc., etc.

Wow.
No surprise she's not aware that "Allah" is the same god of the Old Testament.
Nope, don't have an issue with it nor do I understand why anyone would be afraid of Muslims. I also have no issue with Christians going to church on Sunday and Jews going to synagogue on Saturday and so on. I tend to not care how religious people practice their religion.
I disagree. Christians that try to recruit you are not insecure.
Must have a different bunch of believers over NJ way, then. The ones around here are scared to death of imaginary sins, divine judgement, and (especially) anyone outside their faith.

NJ is not a highly religious state compared to Texas.
I grew up in a largely Muslim area on the far North Side of Chicago, and I can honestly say I never heard any local muezzin call out--not even once. So, I don't why you seem to think this is an issue...
