This wasn't just a couple of 6-packs of beer to him - it is his livelihood (and of his family). He has a right to protect his business, investment, and hard work. If the police can't do it for him, then it is up to him. Yes. A thief dead is such a waste, but the police aren't doing anything to deter them in order that justice would prevail. It takes death apparently for the police to deem something worthwhile.
I honestly hope this guy is cleared by a grand jury since Joe Horn got off.

Here is a very simple solution.... Don't steal stuff and you won't get shot..

Most people wouldn't complain if the thief only got shot. In this case, he stole beer and died for it. Heavy price to pay and heavy on the shooter's conscience (at least I think it would be). Even if this happened all the time, I would either write off the losses or raise prices instead of killing someone over it. Or if he's tired of constant petty thefts, close the store and choose another profession.

People are tired of being victims. I'm not saying that shooting every thief is the answer, but criminals don't pay any consequences from the law anymore. They mock the law and they mock everyone that abides by it.

Another advocate for criminals and I remember your posts about Trayvon Martin and how he was a victim when in reality he was killed in self-defense.

It depends if it's my property or not.

You see....I believe thie question should be "is $30 worth of beer worth losing your life over?"

Why must I constantly have to be the voice of reason?

A similar incident took place in south Austin a couple of years ago - the store clerk was charged.

Around where I live in central Texas, which is full of guns and thousands of CHL holders, it's pretty darn safe:

You are correct.. The thief devalued his life to the sum of $30.00 worth of beer. When a person decides to violate the rights of others they make a choice to accept the consequences for their actions.
For example I have yet to find anything that I was willing to steal for and certainly nothing that I would risk having my picture on the front page for stealing. But then the mind of a criminal is anything but rational. They seem to feel that the world is theirs for the taking.
