Only someone that was insane would intentionally kill someone over a couple cases of beer. Shooting someone because they stole about $30 worth of beer is crazy, I hope the shop owner gets to prove his tough guy credentials on a daily basis while serving a lengthy prison sentence.
And I hope that other would be thieves will think twice before victimizing others.
People are tired of being victims. I'm not saying that shooting every thief is the answer, but criminals don't pay any consequences from the law anymore. They mock the law and they mock everyone that abides by it.
Yes it is, but if you kill someone in defense of your life or property it is justifiable... It isn't considered as murder, but instead justifiable homicide..
Witnessing a gang member shoplifting justifies deadly force? Do outline the legal thinking behind that.
It's called one more a**hole off the streets.......let's just say justice was served for all the other crime the gang banger did. Your sympathy for gang members is disturbing.......it was the owner not just a witness the guy was stealing from the wrong person, now wasn't he?
Most people wouldn't complain if the thief only got shot. In this case, he stole beer and died for it. Heavy price to pay and heavy on the shooter's conscience (at least I think it would be). Even if this happened all the time, I would either write off the losses or raise prices instead of killing someone over it. Or if he's tired of constant petty thefts, close the store and choose another profession.
How many more people do you think might return to try the same thing, bet his buddies don't.

If he had good buddies/relatives in his gang, then it's very possible they will take revenge on the store owner. Shooting a guy carrying a case of beer is one thing; dodging bullets from four p**sed off 'bangers during a drive-by is something totally different.

You need to call the DA in Whereveitwas, Texas, and inform him/her of your superior understanding of law, because our trigger-happy shopowner is being charged with murder.

2 a**holes. The shoplifter, and the vigilante.

It's called having a sense of proportion. The 2nd amendment says nothing about summary execution of shoplifters. I don't think it was left out by mistake. Do you?
Here is a very simple solution.... Don't steal stuff and you won't get shot..
But, this makes too much sense, and criminals depend on strict gun laws that prohibit guns, and a citizens right to protect his property, and himself.
