Since most young people today consider the ethnophobic, homophobic, and socially unaware mentality of today's conservatives "uncool" will that political philosophy be tossed onto the ash heap of American history?

Young people are usually liberal until they have to start paying more in taxes.
Judging from the tea party movement, conservatism is far from dead. If anything, I'd say liberalism's strength has been diminished since its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s.
The only ideas that die out are the really bad ones: racism (dead), homophobia (nobody under 30 really cares who someone wants to sleep with), sexism (buried), Islamophobia (still trouble, but I could argue its somewhat warranted), anti-Semiticsm (rotting in its grave). I honestly don't care about what other people want to believe as long as its none of the above, but once these ideas are cast out you can be assured they won't come back.
Fiscal conservatism? Libertarianism? Nope, still there, always will be there. And theres nothing wrong with that. They're perfectly acceptable ideas. As a middle class moderate, I agree with some of it, and disagree with other parts of it.
Social conservatism? It's on its way out and good riddance. It's totally irrefutably bad and harmful, from the opposition to black civil rights in the 60's, to opposition to women's suffrage, to book burnings, to oppression of science, to gay marriage bans today.
Because people realize ethnophobic and being homophobic. Because the demographics are changing, and because it's been a trend.
