I think all of Nevada. I was up in Reno on business and if I recall the bar I stopped at had a few smokers inside.

Raises hand. I tried a cigarette once when I was sober to see if I would like it without alcohol. I did not. It seemed pointless and I've never smoked beside the time I just mentioned sober.

Now get a couple drinks in me...

And the totally amazing thing about it is I've been smoking when I drink since 1997 or 1998 and I've never once been tempted or even thought about having a smoke away from alcohol. You think cigarettes are so addicting, and they are, that you'd become a two pack a day smoker but it never happened.

From someone who likes an occasional cigar, I will say the benefit of no smoking in public has helped clear the bars and restaurants from the stale cig smoke. I remember non-smoking/smoking sections before California enacted the non smoking laws.

People can still smoke in bars around where I live in Katy, TX, just outside Houston in the unincorporated parts of Harris County. It's really just the cities that don't allow it around here.

What's wrong with going outside to smoke. As a former smoker I never smoked in a restaurant. I thought it was rude. And to be honest I didn't want smoke around me while I was eating. And you really think smoking gave women a sexy enticing look They smelled like ashtrays lol not sure why you find that enticing

Nevada is rather weird on cigarettes. To some degree it is a conflict through the population. Where as the majority prefers that no one smoke they also recognize that a major part of our economy is based on the gaming and entertainment area and we will put up with smoking rather than screw that up.

What we did do was ban smoking in virtually all public places not Casinos. But we did not do it quite right. We did allow smoking in all major casinos. But we did not quite ban it everywhere else. We banned it in virtually everywhere except certain of the larger neighborhood video poker pubs. So we ended up with a situation where the bigger video poker pubs could allow smoking while the regular neighborhood ones could not.

Basically we ended up allowing smoking anywhere gambling existed and children were not allowed. So gaming pubs now ban anyone under 21. Bad in one way. The best neighborhood eating in Las Vegas is the pubs but no kids anymore. So the quality of cuisine for families went down a good bit.

According to a guy who runs these places the issue is actually the gaming in the middle of the night. There is apparently a very profitable gaming environment in the middle of the night where gamblers sit around, smoke and feed the machines. Many are casino workers decompressing. But it is that piece of revenue that motivated everyone to force smoking back in. Apparently the difference between breaking even and making a nice profit for a video pub.

Banning smoking in bars ensures freedom and a nicer environment.

On the downside, clouds of cigarette smoke did disguise the smell of farts.

I don't smoke but it never bothered me to go to bars where people were smoking. I honestly don't care one way or the other.

With that said, it seems to me the smoking bans just fall under public health regulations, of which bars and restaurants are already subject to many. They have to keep food at a certain temperature, keep food prep surfaces clean, etc. Aren't those laws and regulations an encroachment on the bar owner's rights?

If he or she simply posted a sign at the front to let the public know the food is not handled according to recommendations, should he or she be allowed to serve the food any way he or she wants with NO oversight? I mean, the public can choose whether or not to frequent that business, right?

Why have any public health regulations at all?

Oh, and as far as the ordinances being created by only liberals, the Republican mayor of Indianapolis is the one who signed our smoking ban into law and it had the support of several Republicans on the City Council.
