Yes, an creature like a killer whale is better off in the wild BUT the only reason a large portion of people care about any animal that is kept in captivity is because they get to see them and they become real to them. If they remain nothing more than something they read about they are only slightly more real to them than a Yeti. Let them experience them first hand and you'll get someone who cares about them.
Blackfish wasn't a movie. It was a documentary film. Did you watch it?

Read all your posts and all I can do is .
The posts were out there, but I have to say, I never knew Orcas were terrorist of the ocean! Still no reason to capture them and expect them not to kill with a name "Killer Whale."

Wild orcas have never killed a human being, in all of documented human history.

And orcas are one of the most intelligent animals on the planet.

"Orcas have what researchers call clans or subpods. A clan is a group of intrapods in an area that have a similar (dialect) and a common but distant maternal link."

dialect- a particular form of a language that is peculiar to a specific region or social group.
(Orcas groups use "slang" when communicating with each other.)

And "orcas are probably the most socially bonded of all mammals on our entire planet" (they are closer to their families than humans.)

What would you do if someone took you away from your family, and then put you in a (very) small cage?
If they are so smart, empathetic and emotional then why drown a baby in front of its mother just to eat out its tongue? Sounds a bit sadistic to me.

It's not irrelevant. I have not seen it all, it's available online for free but that in no way addresses my point. You would be foolish to base an opinion on one film. A one sided film.

"In the wild orcas migrate 6000 miles each year, but not to feed or breed, a new study has found. Rather they traverse the sea at top speed, slowing as they reach warmer climes, to exfoliate, the study speculates."
Study suggests why orcas migrate north › News in Science (ABC Science)

If a orca was in a cage (1) mile across it would be a small cage.

How big are the orca cages at SeaWorld?

How is the film one-sided? Sea World presents one side, the happy side, and the documentary presents the ugly side of captivity. Taking animals from their natural environment and try to change their natural behavior? It's like trying to change someone's DNA.

How many tigers/lions attack their trainers? They get them when they are pups and they "train" them and these animals grow up and after years of being together, at one point the animal's natural instinct kicks in and attacks the trainer.

It's foolish to comment on a documentary that you didn't bother to watch.

I fully support this legislation.

There is absolutely NO reason to keep orcas in captivity.

Sea World can close its doors tomorrow and I will not shed a tear.

Humans do even worse things. Think about the Holocaust, Sept 11, Arabs torturing women, gang killings, ethnic cleansing, a 14 year old girl in Iraq getting her arms blown off by an American bomb, ex.ex.

And you say its sadistic for orcas to eat just the tongue, But what about you eating veal?
What about you eating pigs that were kept in small indoor cages, that never even saw the sky or sun?

What about humans killing elephants and rhinoceros just for their tusks?

An example of sadistic is 45,000 Americans dying (horrible deaths) each year from not having health insurance, and US republicans refusing to give them insurance.

New study finds 45,000 deaths annually linked to lack of health coverage | Harvard Gazette
