I do not like what Sterling said and find it very stupid. However if Sterling was black and said he hates white people and how he wish they did go to the games this would be a non story . Unless he said something about white gay people then he be in deep trouble. That is just face and you and I know NO black NBA player would come out and say a darn work and Obama would not say a word about it on TV.
Do you think the media would make just as a big deal out of this if Sterling was black? NO they would not it does not help sale papers.
Even black players would be held accountable, I bet you. When you're in the limelight like that and have to answer to all races for your salary, you'd better believe some black dude saying I hate whites/Mexicans/Asians/gays would get the tar and feather treatment. It's not ok either. Wrong is wrong.
Please explain. They are contradictory. If Magic should be admired, then posing in pictures with Magic should be considered OK. That is common sense.
Posting pictures with Magic is fine - but not for Sterling's GF. I do believe he is allowed that preference, right? It was a private conversation after all.
He's obviously worried about how his/her image is perceived by his friends (probably old white aristocrats). Where does this rank on the historical list of racial injustices - I'll let you decide. But do remember that if you have ever made a prejudice comment or even had a prejudice thought - you may be just as guilty as Sterling.

You're suggesting its perfectly fine for him to control whom she associates with.....

I don't know how it ranks. I just know it is unusual for a pro team owner in one of the USA's largest cities to make such bigoted comments and not be apologetic. Once the conversation became public, he needed to think about his duties to the public at large. That is what true leaders do in crisis. Remember, LA is where two of our country's worst race riots happened (1965 and 1992). He has no appreciation for the players on his team that are mostly black and for a significant number of the residents.
We can both hopefully agree that he deserves no sympathy, even if we disagree about the specific statements he made.
Seems like a weird choice of business to own if you don't like black people. The Kings must not have been for sale when he was shopping around for a sports team.

I'm not sure if an apology means much.
The only sympathy I have is for people that are deceived by those they trust. The GF had been with him since 2010 and suddenly she wants to coerce him into making non-PC comments that she can record and give to TMZ? It sounded like she was reading a script and Sterling was like "why the hell are you asking this crap". That's pretty slimy - especially when it's done to the elderly. And yes, even though the media has made him a monsterous villain - he is still an elderly person that was deceived and financially harmed by a much younger person.
And I'm also sure that 99% of people have said things in private that if recorded could have them in Sterling's position if they owned a business.
