That is an excellent question. Let me ask you something, please. Are you truly open to having a respectful discussion of options? Or is this doomed to be a futile battle of intransigent ideology that will go absolutely nowhere? Because that's usually the outcome of things here at P&OC, and, frankly, I'm just not in the mood. I have wasted enough time here today already.
The blame is not on the object itself, it's the object enabling people who are nuts to carry out killing so easily. It really doesn't take the mind of a rocket scientist to figure that out.
And going along with that thinking, eliminate the firearms...the "nuts" will move to knives, eliminate knives, they will move on to hammers, etc.... why don't we address the problem or at least admit there is one at the start of it ?
How can we solve it...who knows but with the two camps fighting back and forth nothing can be solved. It's like our two major political parties that just seem to can't get along, all their energy is spent fighting each other instead of putting the people of the US as their most important thing.
The 2A doesn't bite, any more now than it did 50 years ago, and than it did 150 years ago.
When my husband was in high school quite a few decades ago in Tennessee, boys used to bring their rifles and shotguns to school and store them in a classroom closet until the end of the day, when the boys would go out hunting.
The Second Amendment was in effect then, just as it is now, only kids weren't shooting up schools back then.
If those who were so rabid anti-2A and anti-gun would put their agendas away, and if those who were so rabid pro-2A and pro-gun would put their agendas away, then we could have an honest discussion about why this is happening and what we can do to stop it.
These are boys doing the shooting - when they were born they were innocent, helpless, blank slates. What happened to these boys in the span of 15 years, 16 years, 18 years, 20 years to transform them from innocent and helpless new lives into cold blooded murderers capable of assassinating their school mates?
A GUN does not kill. A PERSON kills. Why don't we want to know why? Why aren't we seriously as a nation trying to figure out why? THAT is the real question we should be asking.
front page on liberal media outlets. they want you to know someone has been shot. they have zero clue on ways to help the problem, they just know how to fear monger.
The left finds it easier to blame an inanimate object, rather than a person or underlying causes for certain behavior.
You know that the left is intellectually bankrupt on this subject when they have to resort to fallacies and personal attacks (children, fetishists, "gun nuts", etc...)
What is the left's hang up with equating firearms with sex?
It is quite disturbing that their mind would even go there, and would appear to be a red flag that there is something wrong with them.
Dr. Freud would have something to say about that approach.
I do see this on many of these threads and personally I don't get it. It is almost like talking with an emotional teen. Instead of rational thought you get insults thrown at you.
Background checks, licensing, and tracking of guns. It's as simple as that. It's sensible, it wouldn't stop law abiding people from having guns. People have a right to vote...but the government administrates it.
The problem is that the element that actually REALLY pushes the current situation is the element that believes it is or will be at war with the government. It's a fringe-nut belief system that somehow has been bought into by far too man people who aren't fringe-nuts in their everyday lives. This fringe-nut belief system has enabled nuts to get their hands on guns far to easily.
And yeah, a stilleto shoe is as dangerous as a glock.
I can't give that thought process the only reasonable response it deserves, which is an insult.
Given the further expansion of the Federal government enacting things like The Patriot Act, and the other wonderful civil right supressing agencies that have followed, I can see why people are getting a bit paranoid. Let's not forget things like stop and frisk, as well as the increasing incidents with cops becoming more militarized due to a failed drug war, and conducting no knock raids. Not to mention there have been politicians who have said flat out they would ban guns and repeal the 2nd Amendment if they could. I cannot support any politician that would even consider side stepping the Constitution.
Doubtful....but if they left continues to bring these to the front of the line then talk about them for days on end....people may not want there 15 seconds of fame.
BTW....if you remove the suicides from total gun deaths....you lose about half or more of gun related deaths....
So if the stricter enforcement of gun control lessened the amount of successful suicides, that would be a bad thing??
The thing is, we love our country even if we don't agree with all the laws or amendments. We take the good with the bad, maybe it is you that should leave ?
