So why doesn't Perry and the other southern State governors call out their State National Guard to secure it, it is they that are in charge of their State NG Units, or didn't you know that? Don't they care about you anymore or could it be they are using it in a game of politics while counting on those like yourself not knowing some basic Facts? So, if you really want to know why they have not done all in their power you should just ask them, just don't hold your breath waiting for an answer.
When states do that they get threatened with lawsuits from the administration claiming that are not allowed to.
Do you have any idea how much the political, immigration and economic landscape has changed since 1986? That's 30 years and 5 presidents! three of them Republican. Any one of them could have enforced the Reagan immigration reform bill at any time. The problem then, and the problem now is they passed a bill but Congress didn't fund it enough to be effective.
Now, same, same. No money from Congress. Just yelling at the president to do something while they tie his hands behind his back.
$18 billion dollars in 2012. It's amazing that people will make claims such as yours despite knowing how easy the claims are to check and dispute.
You asked why the border was not secured and that would be one way to do it. I was pointing out that the Governor can call up the NG if he is so inclinded and you are onlu ASSUMING you know what the feds would do if the Governor did so. The thing is neither side wants to be the ones that gets labeled as the ones that did it because it will not set well with many because, just in case you forgot, these are children for the most part it is would bad here and around the world..
You are correct that neither side is really that big on doing anything. The Governors of the borders states are a little more urgent because they have to deal with it. It's not an assumption that consitutionally, the border is under the responsibility of the federal government. That is how it was created and the courts have upheld that. It is also not an assumption that the federal government has challenged states when they crept over into the federal role and won.

The current funding request (the 3.7) does not include a fence. As for the Senate bill. I think the House should make some changes and send it back. HHS Secretary saying the border is secure as a trigger doesn't seem to convincing given that they were telling us how secure it was and here we are today. I also think there needs to be some concrete measure of the fence progress. Bush signed a bill for the fence in 2006, yet it's not close.

This is true. Rick Perry has the Texas National Guard at his disposal and can call it up any time he wants and secure the entire Texas border. Why doesn't someone ask him and Governor Jan Brewer why they haven't called up the guard?
Because Governors can't just "activate the guard" on a whim like you seem to think.
And securing the border belongs to the Fed and the DOJ has already told Perry hands off..the border is a Federal matter.
Perry did ask Obama to activate the guard and send them to the border when Obama was in Dallas.
Obama said he'd think about it.
Seems that the ball is in Obama's court right now.

Why so argumentative?
When the States tried making their own immigration laws the SC was right to shoot them down. That is not what we are talking about here, if the Governors of Texas, New Mexico, Az and Cal wanted to any of them could call up their NG and put them on the border. As I explained they do not want to be the one that does so because of the possible political fallout that could bite them on the arse if things go wrong.
The fence in not in the Bill for dealing with the current crisis, it is in the Immigration Reform Bill which the House is refusing to vote on for political reasons. Umder Bush they did build fences, they did not go the entire length of our border with Mexico and where it did cover they still got over, around and under it.
Not argueing simply trying to point out the facts here and it burns my chaps to watch this being turned into a political battle with each side pointing fingers while nothing of substance is being to done to deal with the current crisis and the on-going issue of illegal immigration.

From your own link:
"The Governor may call individuals or units of the Texas National Guard into state service during emergencies or to assist in special situations which lend themselves to use of the National Guard."
Me thinks it is in Perrys end of the court if he believes it to be an emergency.

The Immigration Bill s.744 does little to address the actual problems with the system and even less to address the current situation. It does however reward illegals for violating our laws. It is a very bad bill aimed at spending huge sums of tax dollars.

or
Obama and the FED needs to do their job. Instead of making speeches that pander to illegals and their supporters, maybe Obama could have stated without compromise that illegal immigration and their supporters will not be tolerated.
Smaller bills that target the actual problems would not only be less expensive but much more effective.

That would require the House to sit down with the Senate and discuss the Bill and resolve the differences, you know the dirty word Compromise. But lest we forget the House is on record that they will not compromise on anything and we see how they are ready to sit down and work on the Immigration Reform Bill. One cannot work out anything when half of those involved will not sit down and even talk. The ball is in the court of the House, all they have to do is stop talking and start doing, then we might actually get some progress.
