One of the problems with US Intelligence is its in the hands of many agencies. There is the CIA, the FBI that operates in domestically and is in charge of counter-intelligense (The CIA is not a police agency) and takes over when a crime is committed, The Justice department handles such things as money laundering with Treasury arms trafficing and terrorism. The Pentagon's own private CIA is the Defense Intelligence Agency or DIA and each service has an intelligence Office like the Office of Naval Intelligence, there is the National Security Agency thats tasked with things like signals intelligence or SIGINT and The Defense Mapping Agency that develops and operates Spy satellites. Another intelligence agency that is in the important job of finding out if its stormy anywhere overseas is Defense Meteorlogical Agency which jointly operates satellites with NOAA and also has its own satellites. So its not to difficult to see that everytime you will get conflicting messages, conclusions and findings on any issue you can think of.

let's start with the CIA, and then move onto other worthless agencies and departments. department of homeland security, department of energy, department of education, etc.

To boot, they've gone far beyond what they were intended to do...gather good intelligence, filter it, and present clear and concise Intel to the executive branch.

They aren't supposed to be participating in wars, overthrowing governments, and supplying weapons to governments or insurgent groups.

This country needs and deserves a top notch intelligence service, and we don't have it

Should we keep and reform what we have, or should we scrap it the way we did the OSS and start over...with a fresh mandate?
How long did you work for them?

The ONLY way to know what they do is to have worked there. And even then many things are only known to the individual departments.

If they are so secretive that one must work for them in order to know how successful they've been....THAT ALONE is a great reason to close the agency and start over.

Probably the most hated organization you will find anywhere in the world. Destabilized governments across Central and South America and the Middle East since it was formed. It's simply a tool for paranoid and power mad people to use the globe as their own personal game of "Risk".

They've contributed nothing of redeeming value to the world. They have destabilized organic democracies the world over.

But earlier you implied that the problems during the Bush era were mostly the fault of the Bush admin.

Which is it--got nothing to do with the president, rotten under every president? Or mostly Bush's fault? BDS alert....

That's a flat out lie by you. That's not what I said.

I said that the INTEL GATHERING AND SUBSEQUENT INTERPRETING (aka "intelligence massaging") to get the desired results was exactly what the Bush Administration did.

It's well known that Cheney, Wolfowitz, and Feith put a hell of a lot of pressure on the CIA to get the reports interpreted the way the administration wanted them interpreted. This isn't esoteric information...It's widely acknowledged as fact.

I didn't say that the Bush Administration was responsible for agency incompetence.

People on this forum might as well discuss quantum physics or the CIA because they know about as much about what either means. What a waste of time.

The CIA will be here as long as there is a United States.

I hate it that the CIA would cave to such scumbag politics.

Maybe they were well paid for doing so.

Maybe its "enterprise funding" was threatened.

Now, they gots poppies!
