I think its safe to say the CIA has done enough damage and should of been permanently dissolved when Jfk was president. So in to answer the question if we need them any longer i would say absolutely not but at the end of the day they're not going anywhere any time soon.

Before the CIA we need to reformat the HLS, and remove powers that inflicts various damages on to the citizens. CIA is more or less job is to make America presence in other nations needed. Then their is the NSA that could also be reformatted. Bottom-line CIA is doing their jobs, including the FBI. Of course we already have the MIB, DEA, and NRA doing their part as well. Then their is interpole, and 3WA as well.

Every idiot knows that Iraq had no real threat to the USA. THey just wanted to get to the oil, an excuse a pile of poo. I mean they are "only" Marines, it is not like if they are Seals ( as y-our States-wo-men laugh at it's own people ). Seriously Iraq is a peaceful nation ( for most people before 2001 ), and if the USA had decided to go into Israel instead of Iraq, and restore Palestine, they would have been heroes, across the world. But nooooooooo, we had to look at the standard bs, and commodity. It is called a false flag attack, and even if their was any need. They could have used their agencies the proper way. Like how the British foiled a plan, without telling Americans about anything, at the last minute.

Like the doors with two paths. One leads to happiness and the other leads to misfoutune. However both doors are leading you to doom, even if one tells the truth. A bunch of lies nicely placed out side by side.

Read books sir. A lot of books. The Russians/Soviets had a couple hundred years of doing intelligence work long before there was a such thing as a CIA.

The CIA, especially in its first few decades, were constantly overmatched and outsmarted by the KGB. Damn near all of the agents we used to infiltrate the Soviet Block were instantly caught and killed. Never heard from again. We got better as the years went on, but on the level of the KGB? No way.

Here's the thing. Do we need to get rid of intelligence gathering all together? No. However, is they're some structural and financial and political reorganization that could be done to increase the effectiveness and dampen the side effects and explicit cost of the current system? Yes.

Well...of course.

No one endorsed the idea that we shouldn't gather Intel any longer.

To boot, they've gone far beyond what they were intended to do...gather good intelligence, filter it, and present clear and concise Intel to the executive branch.

They aren't supposed to be participating in wars, overthrowing governments, and supplying weapons to governments or insurgent groups.

This country needs and deserves a top notch intelligence service, and we don't have it

Should we keep and reform what we have, or should we scrap it the way we did the OSS and start over...with a fresh mandate?
You can't really be that naive...

What we need is a Commander in Chief who will radically cut down on the numerous layers of bureaucracy that pervades all levels of our intelligence agencies and make it a hard nosed policy to start doing whats good for the country rather than just pushing his own socialist agenda...

Is the CIA engaged in searching for the truth, much?

Is the CIA more engaged in creating the truth?

Or, is the CIA more engaged in eliminating the truth.

What's the mix proportions?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Where's the pie chart?

A pie cannot be a chart, it can only be charted or chartered.

Is a chartered understrap a gartered accessory?

Well, ask a silly question . . .
