Gosh damn shame, Our President, is not taking this lead. Thank God for someone like Perry. At least he gives a gosh damn!

Perry should never ever, have been put into this terrible situation. If only Obama did what he promised. Then again, we are talking about Obama\who makes promises he cannot and does not keep.

Gosh friggin forbid if we only had a Presdient and a Government, that did their jobs to the best of the ability. Truly Obama does not give a gosh damn!

So Texas has a real Governor who's not afraid to stand up for his citizens. Kudos for Perry.
Yeah--what a guy who's "oops" running for president. Since there is not really much the National Guard can do at the border, it appears to be mostly for appearance (like Perry's new glasses) as they have no power but are, in fact, costing Texans a fortune.

"Obama administration officials initially resisted the idea of more National Guard troops. At a July 10 Senate hearing, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said the National Guard was “hugely expensive” and should be used only with “a clear plan and a clear objective.” He noted that most migrants in the recent surge were coming across a 300-mile stretch of Texas border and many were children and families who were turning themselves in, not seeking to evade border agents."

Kudos to Perry for making himself look better in his run up to his presidental campaign, despite the cost to Texas.

That "oops" moment really was embarrassing, but then I thought of all the mistakes other people on the campaign trail make and they don't get the criticism that Perry got. He was probably nervous and traveling constantly with very little sleep. It was stupid, but so was Obama's 57 states comment, or his debate performance with Mitt Romney. I don't think I'll hold that moment against Perry, though I really hope we get some other choices. I'd have a real dilemma if the choice was Rick Perry or Hillary Clinton. I used to like Hillary, but not after Benghazi and certainly not after eight years of Obama. Then again, I'm not thrilled with the idea of Rick Perry either. I really liked Mitt Romney, though I know other conservatives didn't (I'm hoping they're kicking themselves for not going out to vote for Romney now).

Then you have Mr. DHS saying Perry would be better off spending his time working to get the immigration bill passed.

Even Wendy Davis is calling for local LE at the border. And she's a progressive liberal.
She wants Perry to send Sheriffs and Troopers to the border so they can make arrests.
President Bush sent the National Guard to the Border in 2006 - Operation Jump Start
Mainly a Security detail for building the Border Fence. Lasted a couple of years.

President Obama sent the National Guard to the Border in August 2010 but it was a very weak effort - it lasted about a year. Lots of complaints from Mexico and Amnesty Activists - it was a pretty weak 'surge'.

The troops are maintained at the following target levels
across the U.S.-Mexico border, but actual deployments fluctuate, with the number of troops
exceeding the target level at times:2
• 524 to Arizona
• 250 to Texas
• 224 to California
• 72 to New Mexico
• 130 in “command and control” and other support positions
The 2010 "surge" was under the control/command of the Department of Homeland Security & worked primarily with the Border Patrol. Rules of Engagement allowed the Guard to be armed for self protection only. The National Guard and the Texas Law enforcement people are not allowed to enforce Federal Law ...... only State Law. ICE has no interest is Law enforcement.

This particular "surge" will be different - they will be under the command and control of the Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS has arrest powers for all State Offenses (drugs, theft, assault ). These troops (National Guard & Texas DPS) will pick up the slack on law enforcement and surveillance - they will not have the authority to deal with immigration issues. In normal circumstances, the US Border Control works with local/State Law enforcement for Border Safety - the Border Patrol is now having to devote all their time to processing the flood if illegal aliens and changing diapers, which the Narcoficante drug smugglers & gang members from Mexico are also flooding into Texas.

The Texas Border has been wide open during this Crisis - the National Guard and Texas DPS will handle the criminal elements. The Guard will be back-up to the DPS, which will allow them to cover more ground ..... plus they will have a massive show of force in the Rio Grande Valley, which is the main entry area.

Thanks for posting those numbers. I was looking for those to use in my reply to someone earlier who said Obama has done so much for the border, increasing deportations and border patrol to the states. Considering the length of the Texas-Mexico border is 1,254 miles, Texas really got the least reinforcements of all. The only reason Arizona got so much was because it was their consolation prize after the DoJ sued the state over their state law allowing border enforcement.

Yep - the Mayor of McAllen claims crime has not risen ..... he failed to mention that the City Government, Hidalgo Sheriff's Department (McAllen is in Hidalgo County), local Judges and McAllen police department are a hot bed of corruption with over 12 convictions and prison sentences in the last couple of years. In Fact - the Sheriff is awaiting his escort to Federal Prison right now, his son (and former deputy) is already there serving 17 years.

Border towns are either under the Control of the Drug Gangs OR the officials are on the take and informants to the Drug Gangs. The last thing any of them want is 1,000 National Guard Troops that they have no control over in their area.

This was the beginning of the corruption trial in the "Panama Unit Scandal".

McALLEN, Texas — Federal prosecutors announced charges Thursday against four officers from a South Texas anti-drug task force who they say took thousands of dollars in bribes to guard large shipments of cocaine.

This was the sentencing of Sheriff Trevino just 5 days ago.
Alvarez chastised the sheriff for taking money from drug traffickers, saying such corruption is “a problem we deal with every day in South Texas.”
“When you hold the highest elected office in the county, you have responsibilities,” she said. “I do firmly believe the integrity of the unit flows from top to bottom here. Trust, sadly, in the judicial system here, is diminished from the actions of one or two people.

Now, let's look at last night in this "we have no crime" Hidalgo County.

Murder suspect 'presumed dead' after 2 Edinburg officers wounded in La Joya shootout, standoff, sheriff says

This guy executed (shot to the back of the head) a Mexican National and then got into a 3 hour gun fight with law enforcement.

They don't want the National Guard watching over them, they don't want the Texas Department of Public Safety ..... they want money (just as Wendy Davis suggested) to hire more of their cronies that will end up working for the Drug Cartels.

Take what "local law enforcement" claims with a big lump of salt - the people who live down there want both the Texas DPS and the National Guard ..... unless they have family members in the employ of the Cartels.

Mexico has, in all but name, crossed the border a long time ago and now occupies much of the great basin.
Like a burglar with his arm in your door, you can now either retreat, or snap the arm off, because these people are not leaving.

Mexican Drug War corruption has reached as far North as SA/LA and further.
Yeah the North Eastern leftist know all this issue while living so far away from it.
