We're America. We should be better then that.
I think Liz and her Daddy should agree to be waterboarded side by side on live TV to show us all how it's not torture. It's just "enhanced interrogation," after all. Should be a piece of cake, right?

Of course, "five deferment Daddy" would never actually put himself on the line like that.

I guess there is hope for you in that you at least try to construct a rationale that lets you feel better.

Incidentally, it was one of Pol Pot's favorite methods. People confessed all sorts of crimes when repeatedly subject to simulated drowning. Sped up the genocide process somewhat amazing.

Also a favorite with the Japanese in WWII, and who are we to say they did anything wrong?

What a crock of manure. There is nothing more ridiculous than a bunch of sanctimonious libs all patting themselves on the back for how wonderful they are because "we don't act that way." How quick you folks forgot the days after 9/11 and how hard this country had to fight to get back on it's feet.

I haven't forgotten anything. And your post suggests you support torture as revenge for 9/11? We are better than that.

"A U.S. Senate report, due to be released, is purported to conclude that the CIA’s use of harsh interrogation techniques following 9/11 attacks was ineffective and yielded no critical intelligence."

I wonder if it will be released before or after the election.

Obama still taking credit for bagging UBL?

"An Al Qaeda suspect who was subjected to harsh interrogation techniques at a secret CIA prison in early 2004 provided a clue, the nom de guerre of a mysterious courier, that ultimately proved crucial to finding Osama bin Laden, officials said Wednesday.
The CIA had approved use of sleep deprivation, slapping, nudity, water dousing and other coercive techniques at the now-closed CIA "black site" in Poland where the Pakistani-born detainee, Hassan Ghul, was held, according to a 2005 Justice Department memo, which cited Ghul by name. Two U.S. officials said Wednesday that some of those now-prohibited practices were directed at Ghul."

Finding Osama bin Laden: Al Qaeda suspect provided initial clue, officials say - Los Angeles Times

Nice to have it both ways whenever you like and the press doesn't call you on it.

Liz Cheney: ‘Despicable’ Obama slanders ‘patriots’ when he admits to post-9/11 torture

Isn't it sweet how she defends her Daddy's use of torture so enthusiastically? (There definitely is something "despicable" here, Liz. Look in a mirror for a clue of what that might be.)

And talk about hypocrisy. She goes on a tirade, accusing the president of making those comments to "change the subject" from other things happening in the country, when, in fact, Obama was responding to the U.S. Senate report that is about to be released wherein the use of torture is not disputed. And she was a guest on the show to discuss that very report.

Talk about trying to change the subject--she did that very well, steering the conversation away from the disastrous report on her father's regime's use of torture as fast as her despicable little mouth could manage it.

Chicken Dick Cheney's kid "loudmouth Liz" slags on Obama!

Carry on.

Trying someone in absentia is a valid way to make sure one does not simply deny one's due process rights. Groups pled for a trial for Anwar al-Awlaki but the government refused. There was no reason to not grant him one in absentia if indeed the government had proof he had committed crimes.

We even tried Ira Einhorn that way.

Tell the truth, would you consider an American that has join the terrorists as still having the same rights as a loyal citizen or would you remove the threat before they can do any or more damage?
Those are NOT the only two options. We had plenty of time to have granted Anwar al-Awlaki a trial. A military trial can even be done in fairly quick order. At least then there is a record of the charges and proof of the claims. Remember the government made all sorts of claims against Bradley Manning that the courts found to not be the case once he was granted a trial.

No I do not support the government doing away with a persons due process rights no matter who they are simply on their word they do not deserve them. That is NOT the administrations call to give.

The government has been known to lie, no?

Once you align yourself with those that would kill countless innocent Americans you give up any rights you have a citizen. I am all for arresting them and putting them on trial and then hanging them once found guilty, but if that is not one of the possibilities then you are left with either allowing them to act freely and killing loyal American citizens or when the opportunity arises you deal with the enemy in what ways you can, which we did.
Or grant them a trial in absentia. No where in the Constitution does it grant the government the right to simply ignore a persons due process rights. It's funny that you have a problem with torture but not murder.

My apologies for the bad edit, but not the sentiment. I knew too many libs in the Beltway area quivering in their boots and demanding action, first during the anthrax scare, then the Beltway shooter incident. Now all of a sudden you folks are pure and clean? Not a chance. Obamaworld has created a lot of selective memories.

Half the informed voters thinks Liz Cheney is Elizabeth Warren.
