Data?

The link, which you clearly didn't read, says rural areas get 19% more money per capita than metro areas.

How about eastern KY and southern WV? No cities there. Overwhelmingly white. The biggest trough feeder in the country, Owsley county, KY, where 52.1% of personal income is from government handouts, is 99.22% white. That 0.1% black population (which works out to one 4 or 5 person family) must really be living like royalty. Same story for #2 (Wolfe county - 99.22% white) and #3 (McCreary county - 97.99% white). Why are these counties getting half their income from government handouts? Lazy white people faking disability.

Sure, those states might vote Republican overall, but there are many that vote Democratic there, too.

Most conservatives in red states are not opposed to government money going to them they are opposed to government money going to anyone else. So, welfare is bad as it goes to those others; social security disability not so bad because Jimmy Bob has a bum knee or some one they undoubtedly know. Red State conservatives are quite hypocritical about government spending and government waste. As long as one of their own benefits all is well in the world.

I thought Red State people believed in getting the gov't off their backs and making it by their own hard work... so why is 25% to HALF of total income in most Red States coming from non work??

You're right...we should GET RID OF the current welfare program. No more hand outs for nothing. Come on libs, since it's just a bunch of "useless right wingers", let's stop all of this foolishness now.

No need to get rid of it entirely and hurt the people who actually need it.

Let's just go into appalachia and clean house. Toss every person getting a fraudulent disability check in jail. And disbar and jail the lawyers who knowingly helped all those people commit disability fraud.

Looks like every state has it's handouts to people, hard to blame or compare the color of the state for the problem with people on welfare. After all, when one is told to go out and populate the world without birth control or a job unwanted babies do happen.

Your map, as for the West Coast goes seems to show plenty of $$$ going to Las Vegas area and the corner of CA and Oregon. Isn't the section darkened in Arizona, mostly Indian Reservations?

Reading the link you provided shows the map and how they colored it: What is included in government transfer payments to individuals?

Seems they LUMPED everything together.......can we done with Red States have more welfare than Blue states do. California probably has more food stamp type of welfare than, Idaho and Montana put together.

Retirement and disability insurance benefits, Medical benefits (includes Medicare benefits), Income maintenance benefit, Unemployment insurance compensation, Veterans' benefits, Education and training assistance.

Other transfer receipts of individuals from governments: Other transfer receipts of individuals from governments consist largely of Bureau of Indian Affairs payments, education exchange payments, Alaska Permanent Fund dividend payments, compensation of survivors of public safety officers, compensation of victims of crime, disaster relief payments, compensation for Japanese internment, and other special payments to individuals.
Note that government pensions and farm payment are not included in transfer payments to individuals.

Yep. The Indians are responsible for all the federal welfare spent in red states like Idaho and they are also the ones with all the jobs taken from the white, hard workin, responsible, whites.
So they got all the good jobs and their getting all the welfare at the same time.

Who knew?

I didn't say "get rid of welfare", I said, "get rid of the current welfare program".

I say we do a sweep across this entire nation. All frauds will be tossed in the slammer.

Damn it's on the map and you even tried to put it off as Red States ONLY, not seeing the land layout!

Nevada has high Indian population and they happen to get government help for being Indian.....not laying it on anyone, look at the upper part of Nevada and central Idaho owned by the state or ranchers, not much of a handout in those areas.
Now you're just outright lying.

I DID NOT put it off as Red States only. I said that one should take a nuanced view in my first post. In my second post, i said that i don't buy into the Red State/welfare stuff.

In fact, in my example in my second post, i'm the one that brought up Michigan genius.

Effin' right wingers, i swear.
