"Supremacists" are usually weak individuals without any actual societal power, who feel marginalized and insecure. Thus, the need to attach their identity to group or ideology politics.
It explains attraction to any radical ideology. Disenfranchised youth are some of the easiest to target. Be it leftist Marxism to fascism, white supremacists to black nationalists, or fundamentalist religion.
This.
Gaining an identity from membership in any group is a sign of a low individual self-image. By that I mean, if the group becomes how you define yourself, chances are good it is in an effort to shed an individual identity you are not happy with.
So sure, white supremacists would be similar in that regard to anyone else who replaces their individual self with what a group defines their self to be.
I would say it's a pretty good bet that someone who uses the accident of his birth as an indicator of superiority over others whose accident of birth is different from his definitely suffers from low self-esteem. That would seem to be true of skinheads as well as any other radical group.
White Supremacists suffer from a lot of things, including low self-esteem and low education.
Not to mention issues with mental health.
I've learned one thing about the virulent bigots who are open about it: In addition to lacking intellectual prowess, they are mainly bullies. They have very little real power, so they go after someone they see as "inferior" to them. Hence, some turn to physical violence.
Why didn't you just say he talks about it way more than you are comfortable with. If you are exaggerating about "rambling all day long", what else are you exaggerating about?
It makes a big difference if people are expected to comment on the subject.
You mean it makes a big difference to you - since you're the only one who's complained about it.

My cousin is a white supremacist. Like me, he's in his mid 20s. Growing up, I wouldn't say he was the most open-minded person (when I came out the closet at 16, he found it very hard to accept) but he was far from a white supremacist. He became one shortly after turning 18.
He's always rambling about white geniuses . . . from Galileo, to Isaac Newton, to Vincent Van Gogh, to Julius Caesar, etc. He goes on all day long about how great these men were and how they are testament to superiority. Yes, his own superiority as a white male (the ironic thing is he spends a lot of time cheering on black athletes who play for his favorite football team).
This is a guy who hasn't moved out of his parents' place, is currently unemployed, never got the greatest grades at school and spends most of his days smoking pot and watching porn. But when he comes across a non white person he sees on the street, someone he doesn't know a thing about, he thinks he's somehow superior to that person.
Now I know not all white supremacists are like my cousin. However, what I've realized (as in my cousin's case) is that a lot of them simply take their skin color to be indicative of greatness. Falling back on being white is the one thing they viciously cling to, as if it were a novel thing worthy of a Nobel Prize. It almost feels like they are overcompensating (in my cousin's case, this is certainly so).
I find it pretty laughable. I mean, I should feel victorious because both of my parents, who happened to be white, had sex? I should think I'm better than a non white person because I am white, just like Isaac Newton was?
So my question is - do white supremacists suffer from low self-esteem?
I met a guy once who was a real jerk and he drove a Toyota. So my question is - are people to drive Toyotas jerks?

Racism and stereotyping are associated with low IQs. Those folks need to blame someone for their crap lives.
That is what I have observed. This also describes frat boys and ditto heads. They need to somehow feel like they are worth something, but cannot earn it on their own character, so have to find a scapegoat.
I think some of you underestimate a lot of these white supremacists and skin head types.
I know better than to make that mistake.
