My cousin is a white supremacist. Like me, he's in his mid 20s. Growing up, I wouldn't say he was the most open-minded person (when I came out the closet at 16, he found it very hard to accept) but he was far from a white supremacist. He became one shortly after turning 18.
He's always rambling about white geniuses . . . from Galileo, to Isaac Newton, to Vincent Van Gogh, to Julius Caesar, etc. He goes on all day long about how great these men were and how they are testament to superiority. Yes, his own superiority as a white male (the ironic thing is he spends a lot of time cheering on black athletes who play for his favorite football team).
This is a guy who hasn't moved out of his parents' place, is currently unemployed, never got the greatest grades at school and spends most of his days smoking pot and watching porn. But when he comes across a non white person he sees on the street, someone he doesn't know a thing about, he thinks he's somehow superior to that person.
Now I know not all white supremacists are like my cousin. However, what I've realized (as in my cousin's case) is that a lot of them simply take their skin color to be indicative of greatness. Falling back on being white is the one thing they viciously cling to, as if it were a novel thing worthy of a Nobel Prize. It almost feels like they are overcompensating (in my cousin's case, this is certainly so).
I find it pretty laughable. I mean, I should feel victorious because both of my parents, who happened to be white, had sex? I should think I'm better than a non white person because I am white, just like Isaac Newton was?
So my question is - do white supremacists suffer from low self-esteem?
No- I think it is low IQ, and not low self esteem.
If racism made rational sense, I would be a racist. However, racism is based in irrational thought and a misunderstanding of genetics.
I do believe, however, that cultural practices and beliefs can sustain and promote "racist" stereotypes. Why? Cultures which promote-
1. violence
2. lack of two parent families
3. lack emphasis on education
4. favor drugs as a mean of escape
5. lack of assimilation
6. seek victimization
... will tend to sink to the lower socio-economic strata of the US.
Being black is not the problem among blacks. Current "black culture" is the problem among blacks in the US. One simply needs to take a look at black immigrants who have not assimilated black culture in the US- they have done just fine.

I don't know if they DO, but they SHOULD.
Such people are the dregs of the human race - so if they DO suffer low esteem, it is an accurate perception on their part (and that would be just about the ONLY thing such people ever get right).
The lowest of the low always want to find someone lower.
It is tough to have a legitimate discussion about white supremacists when the term is routinely misused in the media. There are real white supremacists of course, people who believe that whites are better than all others and should rule over them. But the term can be used to describe anyone who is non-PC about race.
I'd say not really quite the opposite. Then those that believe in white's are born with special agree. Then of course these people also say inner city black youth have to be told they are special constantly. So many victim claims. Crazy world out there.
Yes because the white supremacist Teabaggers hold their opinions because they are failures and need a scapegoat. Why would a successful person blame black people for his problems? It's ignorant poor people who need a scapegoat, happened the same in Nazi Germany as here, they need easy people to blame for their own poor life choices.

That's the first time I've ever heard anyone compare the Jews of prewar Europe to modern American blacks.

They suffer from a defective heart. All racists do.
