I think Ben made a poor choice. But I honestly believe he is a genuine person. Maybe he wants to be a politician in the future. Just because he is a celebrity, doesn't mean he wants to share EVERYTHING with the public. I think people should cut him some slack.

I understand wanting some privacy but most intelligent people that want privacy would understand that inviting PBS to do an investigative show into their ancestry might dig up some things said individual might not want disclosed.

He pushed them to do it and they acknowledged that it was unethical to do so, yet went ahead and acquiesced to his demands.

If I did not do something I have no guilt to dump, I'm not sure why this concept is so hard to completely grasp.
I bet a lot of people have slave owners in their family if their ancestors are from the South. The celebrities who are on this show have a problem if they want to hide that.
They were our ancestors. you know, like they are dead, and we had nothing whatsoever to do with what they did before we were born. Amazing how people want to continue to blame current living people for things they had no control over.

So true, we have 32 great great great grandparents, the possibilities are endless. I'm not sure how old he is, but that gets most middle aged people back to 1820ish. His slave owner ancestor could even fall into the 64 great great great great grandparents range, egads.
