When Newt Gingrich had to step down for blowing the Clinton Impeachment (Clinton had consentual sex with a White House intern who was over age 21 and lied about it to a Special Prosecutor and in a Grand Jury deposition) and for an adultery problem of his own. The man who was to replace him as Speaker of the House Congressman Livingston who argued the unsuccessful Impeachment trial in the Senate . Congressman Livingston was outed for having an extramarital affair and had to withdraw his name from consideration. The GOP had to go to the drawing board and selected a safe candidate named Denny Hastert who was Speaker until 2007 when the GOP lost the House to Ms Pelosi and the Democrats. It recently turned out Hastert had been using campaign funds to pay hush money to the victim of a sexual abuse Hastert committed. Denny had apparently had sex with one of his football players when Denny was a high school football coach. Since that happened many years ago he can't be prosecuted like a well known Defensive Coordinator at Penn State Univ. for his sexual offense but faced charges for improper use of Campaign funds! Denny plea bargained his way out of a possible jail term .

I guess history is repeating itself. Lets hope the GOP doesn't go for a pedophile or child pornographer this time.

What in the world are you talking about? Gingrich successfully impeached Bill Clinton.

Thank you for demonstrating why conservative ideologues should never be allowed anywhere near the seat of power.

To them, people on the other side of an issue aren't "People with a difference of opinion." or "People with goals and ideas different than mine." or "People we have to work with who might have points we can agree on." Nope, they're the spawn of Satan out to destroy our freedoms and democracy and everything they do or stand for is evil. Acquiescing or compromising with them is a sin.

And seriously, Republicans were the original progressives. Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive. Lincoln was a progressive. Hell, even Dole and Nixon would be considered progressives these days. Wouldn't that make your "real conservatives" the RINOs?

I have long been of the opinion that the ultra-conservative Tea Party types are the real RINOs. Fact is, up until the 1990s the GOP had always been center to center-right. Only in the 1990s did the party start to become right to far right ... and lose it's grasp on reality.

Ted Cruz is a RINO, John Kasich is a real Republican. Nononsenseguy's post is the prime example of the hysteria, ignorance, bigotry, and wackiness that has infected the GOP as of late.
