I see alot of people mentioning US presence in 100+ nations. You do realize that with the exception of Japan, Germany, the UK, Iraq, Afghanistan, and South Korea that the overwhelming majority of the rest are USMC embassy guard detachments and tiny little training and advisory teams invited by the host nation right?

Thus our military needed to become "offensive" on their behalf.

More and more we see that the military is perhaps the most important government agency of all. We have quickly learned in katrina and other emergencies that the military does it while other agencies talk about it.
