The point was suicide by firearm not other available suicide options. Capisce? The poster was attempting to move the goal post to drive home their narrative. Speaking of narratives, let's be frank. The only reason you chimed in on the post is because you falsely think I'm a gun control advocate. You don't give a crap about firearm suicides. You are pro gun advocate arguing with someone who isn't against gun owner rights.
I'm a pro gun advocate that is against manipulation of statistics.
And the topic here is a gross manipulation of statistics. But instead of an apples to apples comparison (apples meaning "people killing eachother"), we have an apples + oranges vs apples comparison (oranges being suicides). The comparison also leaves out the crucial part, adjusting for population.
What are we supposed to conclude from the point of this thread?
A) Living in America is more dangerous than all wars combined? That's absurd.
B) Is it just tallying up the totals? That's meaningless. Americans have taken more showers since 1963 than all soldiers have taken in every war combined. Americans have danced the Macarena more times since 1963 than all soldiers in every war combined. Are we to conclude that America has a problem with showers or dancing the Macarena?
Comparing casualties of war to homicides, accidents, suicides, and justified police shootings is intentionally misleading.
What was exactly disproven about suicides, were they not caused by guns???
It's been pointed out repeatedly that including suicide rates is just shamelessly inflating the numbers for the anti-gun folks. Why? Because quite a few nations that are thoroughly disarmed out-suicide the USA.
Conclusion: Guns are not driving suicide rates up. The USA is pretty average amongst developed nations on this score. If having guns around really affected suicide rates, we should be out-suiciding Korea, Japan, Belgium, France, Finland, Poland, Russia, Estonia, Austria, etc. That's a pretty diverse group of disarmed developed nations where people are killing themselves more frequently than here in the USA.
That's why it's irrelevant to this discussion. Disarming a nation doesn't have much of an impact on suicides obviously.
And people still claim we don't have a problem with guns in America!
This is true because it is true. We don't have a gun problem. In fact, gun homicides have been falling so fast recently that it's no longer worth discussing.
hey now, please do not interject facts into the problem, liberals hate it when facts contradict their stances.
Yes the US is in great shape because the gun violence has decreased, still in last place but better off than 10 years ago, let's celebrate.
