What is the current unemployment rate?

How do you feel if technology halves the number of workers needed?

It's fascinating how many Senators and House Members who supported it are still in Congress or continue to have some influence.

Trump has chosen to surround himself with some of them. And most of them also were in favor of the Iraq War Resolution.

I suggest everyone whose mind is not totally closed read Milton Friedman's defense of free trade. Liberalized trade (sadly the world is not run by economists so that is the best we can do) is a no brainer.

This said,, any change in the tax code or end of regulations will require congress again. Renegotiating NAFTA would mean undoing the economic infrastructure that ties Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. It would likely mean that Congress would be involved because this is how we do it in the U.S.

It is not that simple.
Renegotiating trade agreements takes time.

No question about it. Congress would have to approve any change or new agreement.

Most of the intentions/ promises made by nominees require Congress to act. There is no certainty Congress will play ball even when POTUS and the majority are aligned by party

When will you see enough? Can you not see that these Democrats are NOT YOUR FRIEND ANYMORE. They are elitist scum who want to lower your standard of living.

Donald Trump has promised to stop this globalization. Low wage whites, all minorities, you have to see that you are getting left out of any prosperity these companies are creating. Instead of better lives for Americans from an American company, they are lining their pockets and leaving you out cold.

This is why I'll keep driving Nissans built in Tennessee.
Trump has been clear he intends to make it easier for US businesses to hire foreign workers. A majority in Congress will vote for it.

Regardless of who wins there will be some fuss about H1B Visas ( wink- wink) and then the number will be increased.

Who was there to tell GM and Chrysler "tough" when their decisions bankrupted them?

Ford has been a multi- national for 100 years.

It has manufacturing and assembly plants all over the world. Some date back 90 years.

As it relates to $50 plastic shoes.......

Assume you design spiff plastic shoes and market under your brand. You land a big order with Nordstroms who will pay $11 a pair. You hire a broker to find a company to manufacture plastic shoes to your specifications. It's your brand so you call the shots, a US manufacturer or the globe.

Broker comes back with a quotes from China for $3, Bangladesh for $2 and the US for $10 tariffs and shipping included.

Do you want to make $8 or $9 or $1 ? You decide?

Nordstroms will retail a shoe for $50. Most consumers will wait for a good sale and buy them for $25.
Most consumers won't even be able to afford $25 shoes at all if they have no income because their jobs were eliminated and offshored.
