Why not? It worked for Hillary Clinton's campaign. Near zero live public exposure, with all appearances 100% scripted and all powder-puff questions submitted and approved in advance, chosen expressly for their abject obsequiousness. Contrary or challenging questions relegated to "free speech zones" miles away from the venue where the candidate was being exhibited.
If the press was willing to accept such treatment from Hillary during the campaign, I know we'll all agree that Trump should be accorded no less.
But it doesn't matter. All this proposal does is move the press pool to a building across the street.
Good thing Trump isn't taking any pages from Hillary's campaign, huh?
I'm not concerned with HRC any more.
I am concerned with Trump and his very apparent disdain for one of the public institutions that made our country great.
so wait, you expect the president elect to build a bridge to the press when they have no desire what so ever to make peace with trump? perhaps when the press decides that they get back to what they were in the late 60s before they went after nixon in wholesale fashion. back when honesty and integrity meant something in the press. back when neutrality in the press was the order of the day. after the nixon issues with watergate, the press realized that they could destroy anyone they wanted at the time, and they have been pushing their agenda ever since. and they have only gotten worse over the years, to the point now where the people have had enough. there is very little integrity in the press these days, since they are the publicity arm of the progressive democrat party, and as such they are losing viewership. liberals complain about fox news, claiming it is "faux news", and yet fox news viewership is actually UP compared to the rest of the media. why? because there is a measure of trust with fox news.
Why? Because its the right thing to do for our country which is what any president should be concerned about.
Trump is thinking about the "Big Picture." The Big Picture is that we need an unbiased Press to report the News and not Manufacture it to fir their biased Agenda. Having more Reporters in the Mix to replace the Biased Liberal Opposition is a Great move and perhaps a road to eliminating Reporters that are not there just to Report Honest News.
Perhaps another good idea would be to have a White House News Ethics Department, that Reporters who want a White House Press Credential, to submit applications for an Ethics Background check. Those who are Hostile would be rejected and lose their right to attend.
Terrible idea. Freedom of the press is freedom of the press. That's it and that's the way it works and should work. Anyone who wants to screen the press is anti-American.
Which press are you going have in the room that are not already present, who is the "unbiased press"? Do tell us who that news organization is that doesn't already have access, we wouldn't want any news organizations that ask hostile questions. LOL
From what I have read this cuts down on access to Trumps Press Secretary Staff by moving the press corp. to another location, more is not necessarily better.
Yes exactly. The press room is already open to all sorts of different types of outlets from your CNN and BBC to Joe Schmoe blogger.
You mean like when Obama was constantly trying to discredit Fox News?
If a story is a lie, its a lie no matter where it comes from. That doesn't mean you throw the baby out with the bathwater.
And you people who think Donny Boy is moving the press across the street to accommodate more press are fooling yourselves. He's doing it to duck them just like he's been doing since the election.
But I'm tired of arguing. I'm getting to the point of saying let the chips fall where they may.
Mike Pence and Rance Priebus were on TV today saying it would be way better to remove the White House press corps from the White House and relocate them across the street to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
This shouldnt be a surprise though. Donald Trump has demonstrated contempt for any press coverage he dislikes, openly attacking reporters in press conferences.
The destruction of our democracy marches on.
Everyone in this country should be kicking the biased media out of our lives! Journalists, long ago, failed to be journalists, and when they become true journalists one day again, then let them back in!

The current press room has a capacity of 49 seats. The Trump team wants to move them to a larger facility and include other media so they get a more balanced reporting. I can't blame them. Of course, the left is trying to twist this into "Trump banishing press from White House".

And get our news solely from Donny Boy and his bootlickers? No thank you!
