My beef with UHC is that me and my family have, either through lowered wages or COBRA payments been paying for health care since I turned 26, in 1983. I have never smoked. I resent having to pick up the tab for others who are less wise or frugal.

Everyone makes terrible financial decisions. It comes from the fundamental "want it all" and "feel good" mentality that is inside every one of us. Which is why tax cuts are always viewed as very popular. People can't seem to control their spending without going crazy.

The role of the government is to prevent that "want it all" selfish attitude from destroying our economic system and hurting you in the process (which is also inherently unfair). Just compare it to the housing meltdown. An industry blew up caused by reckless lending standards and homeowners buying homes they can't afford which caused people who weren't even directly related to it to lose their jobs, etc.. around the world. If you wanted to make it fair, wouldn't the US be responsible for lost wages for all those workers?

Dont be so resentful.

I ve been extremely healthy all my life, i dont smoke or drink and i never go to the doctor. Till i got pregnant last year at 34, i barely used a healthcare i payed monthly (aprox 100 dollars a month) for YEARS, and i barely used the ones that my parents payd before it (more or less same cost). So i payed thousands and thousands of dollars for something i never used because of my excellent health.

Im not resentful of having to pay the bill. In reality, i would pay MORE if we were garantized a better
universal healthcare for the poor.

Actually here, in my country, hospitals are also free for inmigrants, and people come from poorer near countries to get free treatment here, cause the hospitals arent free in their countries. You would DIE here.

And i wont tell you about Free college education full of colombians and ecuatorians that get their free title from the prestigious universities without paying a dime and then fly back to their college-expensive countries.

Im all for it!

lol you would die of outrage here

A lot of our rights require more than money and labor. Many good men died to give us our basic rights.

Your point is...well pointless.
Those doctors have to paid by someone.... and when participation is mandatory, that someone ends up being me.

How much of my labor belongs to you?

I get it. And you can apply that very same argument to private health insurance. With private insurance, we ALL pay for the less responsible.

Like I said, there will always be people who make poor choices, whether we're talking universal healthcare or American BIG Business Healthcare. Unfortunately, we can't do anything about that. But having universal healthcare in place is the most civilized choice. In my opinion, a hybrid system of quality public and private care, as they have in places like Australia and France, is probably the best, the wisest, the most cost effective.

A. Rental properties are "businesses", and owner-occupied are "homes". Businesses are taxed differently than homes.

B. Renters pay NO property taxes, so I'd say it's them that don't pay their "fair share".

Anything that society deems to be of value can be funded by those who want it without government acting as the bill collector.

Given, there would probably be less services overall, but it wouldn't be the sky is falling and people dying in the streets scenario that progressive types want to paint it as.

I was just reading an article about THE RADIUM GIRLS.

Seems the companies they worked for lied to them and told them they were in a safe industry. They weren't.

What does this have to do with healthcare?

People get sick through no fault of their own. They get sick because companies, corporations, businesses and individual people pollute the air, poison the water, contaminate the soil.
