Strange, but typical, that the libs are focusing on the teacher's use of the wrong word in this instance opposed to the disruptive behavior of these entitled students, who think they can do whatever they want to & whenever they want to - even after being asked to STOP by their teacher. An authority figure.

It was no biggie when Obama had visited 57 states with one left to go or spoke about all of those corpse-men.

I don't think it's just libs focusing on the teacher's ignorance. Any semi-educated (or greater) individual would be be concerned that a teacher lacks common knowledge and is likely unsuitable to be in the classroom. Even conservative folks like myself.

I'm also not completely surprised that there's a group of careless individuals that are not concerned with the lack of quality in this so-called professionals educating our youth. They probably had teachers like this and don't know any better (just like these students who are disruptive in a classroom environment).

American.....or American English is a language

when my G-Grandfather came over from the kingdom of Austria, he could speak, read, and write 7 different languages (one of them the not defunked actual Austrian language), none of them English....the FIRST thing he did was learn the language....after that he became a citizen...his words..."I am an American, I will speak American"

There is a two-step easy fix to this situation. Step 1 is to make it easier to expel disruptive students; step 2 is to require students in schools that receive public funding to speak American English (outside of foreign language courses, of course).

Actually, I said that if the issue was one of disrespect, it was talking out of turn in class, regardless of the language. Had the teacher simply asked the students to be quiet, chances are this would not be a news story now.

Exactly. And those students will have a better future in America if they only speak English in school and later at whatever jobs they get. If they prefer speaking Spanish, then they should move back to whatever home country their parents came from.

English is the language of America. Plus those students clearly have no respect for their teacher(s), and that's them and their families not appreciating being in America and benefiting from going to our free public schools.

IMO it's extremely rude of anyone to be speaking in another language in any classroom when the class is being taught in English. And the odds are that those students were not talking about the class topic in a productive way while they were speaking in Spanish.

Actually, being bi-lingual is an advantage for any prospective employee, in any field.

OK. The teacher did use the wrong word, American rather than English. But I knew what she meant, so did the students and I suspect so did the majority on this thread. But many are feigning surprise and making fun of that rather than address the core issue.

Is is OK to be jabbering in any language other than English in a math class and disrupt the class ( unless it was an immersion school in Spanish or French where all subjects are taught in that language). If the kids don't want to learn and want to disrupt the class they between go somewhere else and let the students who wish to learn remain.

This trend is leading to children enrolling in charter schools and a push to give vouchers to use in private schools, where such behavior will not be tolerated. The liberals do not like the money flowing away from public schools but if they defend such behavior I do not see how they can prevent it from happening.
