We may be gettting ready for an instant replay of Nixon and Watergate. The question is, why would Trump fire Mueller if he's innocent and this investigation is his best chance of being exonerated by the evidence? Firing Mueller would seem to be the stupidest thing he could possibly do, since it would look like he's trying to cover something up.
It won't be an instant replay of Watergate because:
1) No crime was committed.
2) Congressional Republicans are on side, and there is no chance Trump loses 2/3 of the Senate before or after 2018.
Nixon was a moderate in office and so lost his base. Because he was a moderate he won a huge victory in 72 but it was pyrrhic as everyone knows.
Trump is keeping his base energized, which is 40% of the country and greater than 40% of the Senate. If the Democrats win the House in 2018 Trump will be impeached but he won't be removed from office.
Those are the political reasons Trump won't be removed from office. The legal reason, for what it's worth regarding impeachment, is that no crime was committed.
So, if Trump isn't guilty, what does he have to fear from the investigation?
I think the real question might be "will any of you on this site or across the country who are just completely convinced Trump did something wrong EVER actually believe he didn't, even if Mueller himself says so?" Because I honestly don't think you will. I really think that no matter what happens, the Left will continue to think and believe that the President is guilty. I don't think it matters how long it takes. This investigation could go on for 10 years, end up with nothing incriminating against Trump, and he'd still be guilty in many people's eyes. Because they simply hate the man. They want him to go down so bad they could care less if the reason is factual, as long as it takes him down. At least, that's the way it seems when listening to people talk or reading their posts.
Trump can't fire Mueller. The head of the Justice Department, Jeff Sessions, can't fire Mueller because he has recused himself from the Russia investigation. Only the person who appointed Mueller, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, can do this. But now, he says he's thinking about recusing himself from the Russia Investigation. If he does, someone else in the Justice Department will have to do this. No one in their right mind would take this job on, as they would become the messenger who always gets shot. Still, I am sure the administration will find someone to do it, someone who doesn't know he is being fed to the wolves.

Trump? Rosenstien is feeling the heat.... Wray is fed up too.
McBabe along with Mueller, are going to be under investigation for actual named crimes, so they will be removed from the investigation of Russian Trump Collusion.
The Inspector General, not Trump will be cutting off heads.
Meanwhile for Muellers investigation of things that haven't happened there has been four indictments.
Like seriously. Are you people really that partisan that you're still harping on something that found no crimes and you're determined to shut down an investigation that has actually bought charges?
That's not being patriotic. It's the opposite.

Rosenstein is doing a great job holding his ground. He won't fire mueller, he'll let it take its course.
I hope he is not fired.
The NeverTrumpers are deranged and hysterical as is. Can you imagine what they will be like if Mueller is fired?
Our best hope is for the investigation to go on. Hopefully, it will not end until after someone is reelected in 2020, because if it ends for any reason the pu**y hats will come out, NeverTrumpers will protest and more conservatives will be beaten bloody.
Benghazi was wasting money. Even Gowdy finally admitted the whole affair was nothing more than a ploy to discredit Hillary.
Mueller is finding eveidence of wrongdoing and indicting the criminals. Hardly a waste of money.
Destroying Hillary was not a waste of money. It was a public service.
