It will cost us more, but I don't think it will hurt the economy.
People will still buy soda even with a 25% markup... Americans can't live without their coke.
an extra buck or two won't kill anyone.
This is at least an honest answer. It may be true, probably is.
But to ignore facts and say that choking supply on a hot commodity won't affect a price increase is not a serious argument.
Again, as a fiscal conservative (which is why I don't vote for Republicans), I say that any kind of Government handout is bad, and I'm not in favor of this tax and redistribute scheme. Overall it is bad policy.
But Oh Come On is probably right, this alone, won't hurt the economy. (The trade war that it sparks, and the further isoliationism of USA that it may cause likely will though.)
Don't bother buying the six it shows available at that price ($66.22), because I purchased them yesterday. Notice it shows a MSRP of $147.15. The last time I checked that page it was $81.90.
I said that a personal anecdote was not a rebuttal to my OP.
Yu are comparing a sales price at a different vendor to Amazon's regular price in attempt to prove that prices went up. That's absolutely bogus. Furthermore the original vendor did not raise the prices AS YOU STATED.
WHAT??? I have been buying those for 10 YEARS!!! And now you are telling me that vendor hasn't raised their prices??????
TALK ABOUT FAKE NEWS!
You take the cake. Yes, you are MOST DEFINITELY CALLING ME A LIAR!
You are comparing a sales price at a different vendor to Amazon's regular price in attempt to prove that prices went up.
That's absolutely bogus.
Furthermore the original vendor did not raise the prices AS YOU STATED. Your own link just proved it.
PAY ATTENTION. The first link is to prove to you the MSRP. PLEASE LOOK AT THE MSRP: $147.15.
I have been searching The Internet Archive for a page that shows the old MSRP of $81.90, like the Amazon page shows. As soon as I find more proof, I hope you have fun trying to get your foot out of your mouth...
You said prices went up. They didn't. They went down AFTER THE TARIFFS WERE ANNOUNCED. You just admitted to it .
"Don't bother buying the six it shows available at that price ($66.22), ..... The last time I checked that page it was $81.90."
It certainly is unbelievable.
Proof enough that all the dire predictions proclaimed about Trump, yet again, are totally baseless.
My gosh! PAY ATTENTION!

Since you chopped it to fit your narrative, OF COURSE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.
THE MSRP: $147.15. The last time I checked that page the MSRP was $81.90.

So lets summarize.......
Before the tariff announcement you could get it for $81.90
After the tarriff announcement you could get it for $81.90
After the tariff announcement you actually can get it for $66.22
Yet despite this.
You read some marketing material on one vendor's website about a price that nobody pays, and declare LOUDLY that Trump's tariffs caused prices to to rise due to higher steel costs.
Well........ I'm glad we got to the bottom of that.
