I'm not going to engage in a discussion about the equity of taxation. This was about charity replacing the government in paying for social safety net programs, it's not going to happen, not now- not ever. It is not about anything else, if you want to discuss something else then maybe you should start a new thread?

It is on topic. Corporations aren't "rich." Tens of millions of working and retired Americans, if not more, own financial stakes in those corporations and reap the profits for their retirement draws. Reducing those profits takes money from retirees. Are you good with that?

The quality of life the welfare class lives is much higher than the non-welfare class just above them. The welfare class gets free food with food stamps, discount housing with Section 8, free cash with welfare, free medical with Medicaid. Not a worry in the world they are living the good life. As an added bonus the welfare class doesn't have to worry about inflation as all their handouts are adjusted for it.

It is time for the non-welfare working poor to be furious with the welfare poor. They should be coming out with pitchforks. There should be big protests in front of Section 8 communities.

The best thing the non-welfare poor could do is vote for far right wing politicians. Yes they mostly vote for Republicans today but the GOP does nothing to cut welfare programs. We need a replacement party (or a revised Republican party) that will make it priority #1 to end all welfare programs.
You bring up some good points, as the total welfare package of benefits (which also includes cable TV, internet, cellular phone service, etc.) exceeds what many low wage workers get after putting in a full work week.
I think the one thing you left out regarding an "end to all welfare programs" is to specify for the able-bodied, as some people genuinely cannot fend for themselves.
We clearly have people in our society that for one reason or another do need the safety net, if only for a period of time. Others might need it for life if they are mentally or physically handicapped.
However the able bodied lazy leeches must be taken off, and the generational cycle of entitlement many of them have been born into must be stopped. I'd like to see the government give them training for a trade and that keeps the checks rolling in until they can stand on their own. Refusal to do so would mean an instant cut off of benefits.
Lets face it, many will not give up their ability to sit around all day in A/C and watch Oprah or The View.

No one on welfare gets free cable TV. The lifeline program currently provides $9.25 toward cellphone service, with 750 minutes and 1GB of 3g service. There is also a $9.25 payment toward fixed broadband, I don't know of any broadband service that you can buy for $9.25, I think the minimum would be $30 or $40 a month. There is no discount or offer for free or discounted cable TV.

In 2021 there will be no stipend for cell service the only benefit remaining will be $9.25 for fixed broadband. https://www.fcc.gov/general/lifeline...come-consumers

You make that claim as if you think you know what you are talking about. Comcast (among others) touts their program to bring their services to underprivileged people (whatever the heck that means). And they also provide free hotspot service which can be used to stream TV shows and the like. For that matter their high speed internet connection can allow them to watch all sorts of shows for free.
So just because they are not getting HBO (yet) does not mean they are not getting free entertainment.

The irony of this discussion is how great Americas poor (in general) have it. The poor from around the world would view our poor as living like kings, with full bellies, medical/dental care, housing, etc., etc., etc.
Yet it is never enough, and our poor act entitled to everything and demand more, as if they have earned it in some fashion.

I posted a link, hopefully the FCC knows what they are talking about since that is where I got the information. If you envy the poor so much, then quit your job and jump on the gravy train

The new abused welfare system is disability, and most people who get the benefits now don't need them and through some mental gymnastics don't consider themselves welfare recipients.

SSDI is only awarded to people who have a substantial amount of Social Security earnings, it's a bizarre to call it welfare as it is to call a Social Security old age retirement welfare

We need class warfare: ordinary Americans vs the corporate interests that have taken over our government.

In America you need over $900 million dollars in campaign funds to run for president. Can the average American raise the $900 million needed to run for president? NO. And our politicians get their campaign money from large corporations and billionaires, and those are the people and groups that control our government.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graph...paign-finance/

Today in America billionaire CEO's are in a 15% to 20% tax bracket, and large corporations pay a average 12% effective tax rate

https://www.thebalance.com/trump-s-t...ts-you-4113968
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...axes/81399094/

And non-CEO's making over $500,000 are in a 37% tax bracket, and small businesses pay a average 19.8% effective tax rate.

We live in a America where ordinary Americans can't run for president because they can't raise $900 million dollars needed to run. We need a class warfare where the working poor and the welfare poor go against the corporate interest that control our government to their best interests, and then we could have real Americans controlling our government (instead of billionaires and large corporations.)

Hmmm. What does the F stand for? That automatically casts doubt upon their competence. LOL
