If you make money dealing with the public you should be able to communicate with your customers. I go to a Korean market and get frustrated asking for help since few of the workers speak English. Usually Korean American customers are most helpful followed by the Latino illegals stocking the shelves because I can speak to them in Spanish. Reminds me of that I Love Lucy episode when they went to Europe:

What difference does it make what type of business it was? Part of it was for safety reasons. Did you miss the part where they were allowed to speak Spanish on their breaks and lunches? I have no idea if the sign was put back up as she know longer works there. I guarantee you that the employer was within their lawful right to do so.

Unless one is in the tourist industry, some foreign based company or ethnic business it's a waste of time. Do you know how many foreign languages are spoken in our country? Should we learn all of them? As I have often said it's only Spanish that is being shoved down our throats and it's directly due to massive illegal immigration from our southern border. Most Hispanic citizens know how to speak English so why would we have to converse with them in Spanish?

No, I didn’t miss it. I also didn’t miss the absence of details regarding the nature of the business, the functions of various employees, etc. It is very easy to claim the employer was within his or her lawful right when you skimp on details. In fact, application of a speak English-only rule is unlawful for a VAST majority of businesses. Thanks for the guarantee, but unless there are specifics, I’m not buying it.

Its really up to the biz owner to decide. Certainly if you are alienating a large part of potential customer base by not speaking english you will have to change who you let interact with customers or the marketplace will punish you.
If the korean market has more korean speaking customers than english only, they may elect to do nothing and not be the worse for it.
