It surprises you that the New York City area has open racism? lol Look at all the different ethnic groups there. Has to be the most racist city per square inch. Tons of people who live on top of each other like animals. Of course there is going to be more racism.

However, if a person has lived in that country for several years (at least 3) and can barely speak that language, I think their priorities need to be changed a bit.

This is true but on the other hand there are those who learn English but refuse to speak it unless they have to so what's the difference really?

Your claims to not be anti-immigrant or anti-Latino are pure BS and we all know it.

Well said. Let's call it like it is.

Every city has free classes for ELL. Bigger cities have many resources, so money is not the issue.

Wanting immigrants to assimilate into our society linguistically and every other way does not make one a racist, anti-immigrant or anti-Latino.

The reason we hear so much Spanish being spoken everywhere is directly due to massive illegal immigration from south of our border. It is neither natural nor lawful. Of course when you have massive illegal immigration it will dilute the demographics and culture of any country. Why is objecting to that supposedly being racist?

Remember we are speaking of illegal immigration not legal immigration. I'm all for diversity in our legal immigration numbers also so that colonization doesn't occur rather than assimilation. Colonization is in direct contrast to assimilation and the melting pot. Not a damned thing I have said above is racist!

Well, some folks DO know the language and many others. Does being bilingual or multilingual ring a bell? And maybe a conversation is a private matter, and none of anyone else's business.

If you like I can tell you to MYOB in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Spanish.

Again, for the umpteenth time, what other people speak between themselves in a private conversation is none of your ******** business

But castigating them for speaking different languages likely does make you a racist and anti-immigrant.

Someone can speak 1,000 languages yet integrate successfully. Someone else can speak 0 languages yet integrate terribly. Number of languages spoken has nothing to do with societal integration.

Long story short - if you are personally offended by hearing languages other than English, the problem is you. Wear earplugs if you cannot bear the sounds of non-English communication.
