so much for free market......so if Trump wants to do the same thing for our farmers and workers then that's bad....Canada and Europe do it then that's good...got it!
The US population completely dwarfs Canada's. Without any protective measures, the US would economically completely dominate inside Canada (even more than it already has) and wipe out many domestic sectors.
Believe it or not, Canada would like to not be taken over by the US.

That's right! We are the most powerful military in the world. We are also the #1 economy in the world. These countries need us and they know it. Trump will win again.

What does the US produce that other countries want? Aside from soy beans.
Do they? They understand perfectly well that the US buys, wants and needs their crap. They control the SE Asia market-place. Using their influence the US wouldn't even have clothes to buy and wear.
Yes, they do! To begin with, China holds more than $1 trillion in U.S. assets, mainly in U.S. Treasuries. No other country or entity in the world could absorb those assets if China wanted to sell them, and with China's currency value pegged to the dollar, any massive sale would lead to a steep decline in the Chinese currency and economy. China's holding of U.S. debt is leverage only in a theoretical world where it could dump its U.S. assets or stop buying more. What's more, even a hobbled America is the world's largest economy and the most significant market for Chinese goods. In 2009, a supposedly bad year, Chinese exports to the U.S. were approximately $300 billion, about the same as in 2007. That is a vast source of income for China and one that no other part of the world can provide. The U.S., meanwhile, has been a source of billions of dollars in direct investment in China, from thousands of American companies big and small. While it's true that China doesn't need any one of these companies as much as each one needs China, China needs all of them and depends on them for everything from brand-name goods to know-how and capital. Beijing can't just snap its fingers and go it alone; its domestic economy is far too entwined with that of the U.S., its companies, its capital, and its consumers.
Even if Canada capitulated on NAFTA, the problem is that Trump couldn’t be trusted to honor any renegotiated deal. He would view the capitulation as weakness. Any time he wanted Canada to do something, he’d just just threaten, and then impose new tariffs, citing national security. Heck, if it worked once, he would be convinced it would work again. So, it’s better to just leave the table than capitulate at all.
You are correct. All of it. Sadly, he could watch a Hannity show and decide to throw everything out of the window. We've already learned ourselves that he cannot be trusted, why would anyone else trust him?

Thats all true. But then, could the US replace the Chinese manufacturing base? Ever? Nope, that ship has sailed. And China knows it.

These countries can make do without us. We don’t even produce products here anymore. Hardly anything is made in the US

Then is not free trade...you can't put a 270% tariff on our products and call it protection and then cry and complain when we do it to your products coming in our country.
What is Trump supposed to tell our farmers? "sorry folks, Canada only has 35 million people so they get special treatment over you, sucks to be you...by the way, vote for me in 2020, I broke my promises"....

I guess he will be telling them that he lost their export market to Canada. Like half billion $$$s per year.
