Most Indian H-1B visa holders are however supporters of Modi. Modi has visited USA multiple times to give speeches for diaspora but there has been no discussions ever on H-1B or IT industry. Atleast we never heard about agreements signed or IT bigwigs being part of his delegation.

Lets see how this second term of Modi goes with Trump administration. One thing is that right now, both sides are free of Elections so something concrete can be achieved.
Obama himself was a big supporter of H1B....his roomie was on H1B.

Trump is against.

In my Grad School Days, I remember that students from Puerto Rico and Hawaii used to hang out a lot with other International students.

New Director might be even more hardliner. Lets see what his / her focus will be on. USCIS agenda will be interesting - will it focus more on illegals or Legal immigration like H1B visa ?

Wondering this too. Sounded like Trump actually got some flak at first as Cissna was respected for doing a lot of damage to the H-1B visa in practice, making the bureaucracy around it much tougher. But Cissna was still allowing in a lot of H-1B's regardless of it. It sounds like Cuccinelli is more hard core about just shutting down immigration in general and making it harder to get visas of any kind, esp. H-1B's, that is just shutting down the visas in practice for long periods. Was wondering about his focus too but Cuccinelli has some off as very anti-H-1B so will see.

Yeah strange choice. He is more about Conservative Agenda in Legal fields rather then Immigration. Plus his surname suggests that his grandparents have immigrated here from Sicily. And he wishes to end Birthright Citizenship !!
It will take him years to even understand what is H-1B visa !!

As per wikipedia
Characterized as an immigration hard-liner, Cuccinelli sought to prohibit undocumented immigrants from attending universities, repeal birthright citizenship, and force employees to speak English in the workplace.

Will he post staff at every workplace with a whip enforcing language ?? What rubbish !!

No, Trump is all for the 'merit based' immigration, like the H1B, which has been the pathway to countless foreigners in US.

Trump's bottom-less well of trust in his crooked, neoliberal son-in-law Jared Kushner to draft Trump's own immigration plan, which boils down to "let's race to the bottom in wages even faster", would indeed suggest that. Unless Cuccinelli winds up going all in to virtually shut down the H-1B visa in practice, which not even Francis Cissna was inclining to do.

https://www.thequint.com/news/world/...-authorisation

Two California Legislators have introduced legislation to protect H4 visa work authorization. Their reasoning is that H4 visa spouses contributes to the US economy.

The Quint is an Indian magazine and "lakh" means "100 000".

Counter argument can be that if those jobs are acquired by American workers, they will also be contributing to the US economy.
