I support Trumps tariffs on China. The Chinese dump on our markets, subsidize their corporations, and manipulate currency values. And today we can't buy electronic devices that are made in America.

But Trump has started trade WARS with Canada and the European Union, and Trump has taken America out of international trade deals (and now those countries are making trade deals without America, and American businesses will loose access to 100,000's of millions of international customers.)

And the 25% tariffs on European cars sound good, but its not that simple to increase American auto sales.

The Europeans will put retaliatory tariffs on American cars, and US auto makers sell less cars. Then the Europeans will calculate how much money the US tariffs cost them, and then put tariffs on more American goods like soybeans, whiskey, and motorcycles (then US farmers and manufacturers sell less goods.)

And the auto tariffs are supposed to help US car manufacturers, but US car makers are opposed to Trumps auto tariffs (and if the auto tariffs would increase US car maker profits they would support them.)

We needed a trade war with China so that someday we can buy TV's, radio's, and telephones made in America again. But we did not need a trade war with Canada and European Union, and we did not need to back out of international trade deals and cause American businesses to loose access to 100,000's of millions of customers.

It's one think threatening China with US exports to China of only $130 billion while imports from China were $506 billion making a deficit of $375 billion.

The EU is very different, the US exports goods and services worth $528 billion to the EU, which is more than China imports in to the US. Europe exports $629 billion to the United States making for a $101 Billion deficit. Total EU/US trade is around $1.1 Trllion, the largest in the world.

Tens of millions of US jobs rely directly on trade with Europe, and vice versa, and in terms of cars and car parts production can relate to numerous countries.

Europe is not China, and it can hit back hard, as the US exports a lot of goods, and the EU would not just limit itself to cars it would start putting tariffs on numerous other goods.

Those who think a trade war with Europe is going to be like China, need to look at the figures.

Trump has already backed out of a trade war with Europe once, yet continues to talk nonsense to his base.

This is a gift to crony capitalism, not working Americans.
EU has unions for the workers.

China I can understand since they banned workers rights to organize.

No he is smart!

How many American cars can be seen in Europe? That’s the answer!

If it was done against countries that ban unions, you would have a point.

We have tons of companies in China.....

Outside of fairy tales and communist countries, economies are demand-based.
Europe has a tariff on US made imports. So we have a tariff on European imports. They drop their tariffs, we drop ours.

Simple.

Sure seems like government intervention on steroids.

I prefer free market capitalism, but clearly that is not what Trump/GOP has to offer.

We know Trump is incompetent, so the real question is why GOP is not performing their constitutional mandate to act as "checks and balances" to stop this nonsense.

Vote them out!!
